Hi All. I hope you are all as well as can be.

I have received a letter today, well, I was copied in on a letter to my Dr from my Liver specialist which I think is reassuring for me. Just wanted some opinions. SO it states that my albumin levels are slightly high at 51, but as this is something the liver produces, i am taking this as a positive? And this is unusual for someone with Cirrhosis. My platelet count and LFT's are all well within the normal range with bilirubin of 15 and ALT of 16. They state that after my Fibroscan, they hope to reassure me that IF I have Fibrosis then it can be reversed to some degree. Whilst I know that there is something, due to the abdominal pain which led me to visit my Dr, maybe it is not as bad as I thought. Ok so liver disease is a very serious matter, but, what I want to know is, can Fibrosis be completely reversed??

Feeling angry at my Dr. She put the fear of God into me by just blurting out CIRRHOSIS!! Surely she could have been a little more understanding in explaining my US results. She made me believe i had full blown Liver Disease. !! Whilst I am aware I do not yet have a definitive diagnosis, surely this letter is a positive one?

Hi Chaibooboo,

I can't comment on your results as we are all different and I am not a specialist. So I take it you are waiting for a fibroscan now?

When you first visited the GP was it due to pain or did you also mention alcohol consumption or? Just trying to ascertain your referral to a specialist..

Guess the main thing here, reading what you have written is the paragraph relating to the fibroscan and what they hope to ascertain.

If you get really worried you could always leave a message with your consultants secretary... obviously they are busy people but when I've queried things (usually meds) I've had the secretary ring back if not the consultant.

All the best,

H Michelle. Yes I have my Fibroscan on Monday. I went to the GP due to getting occasional right abdominal pain. I only drink on weekends (not spirits) but not anymore. I have left several messages with secretary but unfortunately no response.

Hopefully they will tell me something on Monday after my Fbroscan.

I hope you are well :)

Hi Connie,

That's good then, I'd hope they give you the result there and then, they did with me. It's a KPa score and depending on the type of fibroscan it may also give a CAP score which is related to fat I think...

Glad you don't drink now, your liver can't tell the difference between spirits or not, it's all alcohol so definitely worth avoiding..

Fingers crossed for Monday, the figures will get fed back to your consultant and he will look at the entire picture as it were..

Keep us posted eh!

Have a good weekend,

Michelle xx

I had my doubts right from the start.

P.

P.S.: There are some -rare- conditions which can mimick the surface of a diseased liver on US, as it seems. Just telling, as I have such a condition.

Glad to hear! I think it depends what your fibroscan is for a definite answer. Most liver tests only show acute damage not actual liver function. However Albumin does, along with. Bilirubin and INR.

They should be able to tell you what your result is then and there. Anything in double digits is concerning, less than an 8 should reverse long term. The threshold is higher for alcohol if your ALT And AST is high but yours is not.

I hope it goes well, positive thinking!

I think your fine but not to scare you my story is not as advanced as others but I am progressively catching up. I believe the sooner fibrosis is found there is proof of full recovery also new studies gut.bmj.com/content/46/4/443 are saying fibrogenesis confirm that the process is dynamic with respect to both cell and extracellular matrix (ECM) turnover and suggest that a capacity for recovery from advanced cirrhosis and fibrosis is possible. The only change I have had with my cirrhosis is the ACT score go from a 3 to a 2 , it is possible to have gallbladder problems or as others have said there are so many other possibilities to cause pain, your albumin levels could be caused by acute infections, burns, and stress etc... but so far I haven’t had any doctors tell me that my fibrosis could be reversed as matter of fact it’s the just the opposite mainly because of the 25+ years I wasn’t diagnosed. My liver It may stabilize for a while and working fine with great numbers. In my case I have Hepatitis C I took the hep c medications ribavirin and SOVALDI that did work but I always will be reactive on the blood test because it never truly goes away, they call it undetectable if it’s not over a certain amount. The problem is what the hepatitis C and Cirrhosis has damaged the other organs in my case the heart , lungs, kidneys, and so many side effects like HE,Ascites, etc... basically anything from your hair to your toe nails. But I bet your going to be ok

Good luck
