Left Side Pain?

Anyone have pain on their left side instead of right side from liver disease? My spleen is normal on scan and I don’t have any abdominal fluid so what else could cause left sided pain? I’ve had it on and off for the past 10 years. It’s why I went for CT scan 10 years ago (when it showed fatty liver) and again recently (when it showed cirrhosis). I have no pain on the right.

I have had similar symptoms. Sharp pain under lung on the front left side and same type of pain below the scapula. It is not consistent or predictable. As yours, it happens over several years. Doctors have been vague but possibly referred from liver or pancreas. But, no answers. Hope someone has more answers. Thanks for good question.

Hi WayCas, still don’t know what it’s from. Going for EGD and colonoscopy in 2 weeks. Maybe that will show something.

yes. I have had that on and off now for about 3 years. Sometimes accompanying bloating feeling and often left flank discomfort (feels like a lump sitting in my intestine along left flank). I have often thought it might be the spleen, but doctors are not convinced. Always had bloods in range, Fibroscan 6 months ago show s3 fatty liver but normal stiffness (4.5). Idk what it could be. May I ask if it worse now with cirrhosis?

Hi Qwertrew,

Yes the pain happens more often now and is a little worse than before. It’s not really bad though, thankfully. Happens mostly when I’m lying in bed at night. If I turn over to one side or the other it goes away. Nothing was seen on left side on the CT scan so I don’t know what it is either.

Might be worth asking your GP or Consultant to check your Pancreas blood tests.

Inclined to think that if it was a Pancreatic problem then it would have shown up on your blood tests and they would have raised it. But, make sure they are doing those tests.

I had Pancreatic issues and they prescribed Creon, which is basically just an enzyme that replaces those that your Pancreas isn't making if it compromised. Took it for a few months and the pain and bloating went away. Although I do take the occasional one with dinner in the evening if I'm feeling particularly bloated.

Not a doctor, and not suggesting this is the issue so check with your GP.

Thanks Bashful. They did test my pancreas enzymes and it was normal. But I’m thinking it may have to do with poor digestion as I often feel bloated too. I started taking probiotics and digestive enzymes so I’m hoping it helps.
