This comes and goes and I used to think my liver was on my left side due to the pain. Does anyone else have this? Is it my stomach or gallbladder?

If the pain is on your left side it's not, as your post says, next to your liver. Could be gut related.,something in your bowel? Is it at the front , or round the back. Sciatic pain is a shooting pain but round the back pelvic area.
i get this, had magic eye & was told i was fine, took some samples from side of stomach but have had no response so guess things are fine. Suggest you see the Dr but don't hold your breath for the results! Try to stay positive
I have constant upper right quadrant pain, shooting and stabbing in particular.
What conditions d you have related to liver? I have rupture of vessels in my liver that bleed due to portal hypertension.
Your spleen is on the left side of your body and hand in hand with cirrhosis you will often get an enlargement of the spleen which can cause pressure on the diaphragm leading to left sided pain, issues with breathing and radiating pain to the left shoulder.
When was your last ultrasound and what did it say about your spleen?
Mention it to your specialist to get checked out.

I also have a stabbing pain in left side, under the ribs. As AyrshireK mentioned I have a enlarged spleen (splenomegaly). Finding the solution so that pain can be reduced. Pain increases with irregular eating habits. Discussed with specialist, says I have to bear the pain.
