Hi. Newbie here. I’ve always been a very heavy drinker. I got trapped into it from a very early age and I’m 50 now.
I recently went to the doctors as I had a near continuous mild ache on the LEFT side of the abdomen and a near continuous bloated stomach. After blood tests (and stool samples) I registered a high liver count and the doctor booked me in for a ultrasound scan .. what’s worrying me is that over the past week my stomach have started to noticeably swell, feels uncomfortable/ bloated with bad wind - though still NO obviously RIGHT side pain - but I’ve completely convinced myself that the swelling is a result of a damaged liver, and have gotten myself into a right tiss! What do people think? thanks. (One good thing is - I think I’ve kicked the drink )

We’ll done for kicking the drink, that’s a really positive move. I wouldn’t want to speculate on the cause of your symptoms. Often blood test results lead lots of other tests to rule things out and hopefully get to the root cause of symptoms. I know waiting for appointments and then results is hard but it’s the only way. Whatever you do, don’t hit Google - you’ll end up in even more of a tizzy and often for no good reason.
My immediate first thought on swelling, bloating and bad wind at this time of year is sprouts! Let’s hope it’s something as simple as a dietary change.
Welcome!!.Well done with stopping the drink,I know all to well, not an easy task!!
Well it seems your doctor is on the ball, organising a ultrasound.... that will enlighten your doctors to anything that needs more investigation. I know its easy to say,but try and stay as calm as possible,as there is nothing you can do until the ultrasound has taken place....we are all at some point playing the waiting game...I'm currently waiting for a ct scan result. We just have to try and crack on with life as best we can, until we hear back from the doctors.
Once again, well done with easing up on the alcohol, good idea.
Good for you for stopping the drinking. Sounds like that needed to happen regardless. Try not to borrow too much trouble. Let us know how it goes. Good news is, no matter what the outcome is the first advice will be to quit drinking which you have already done. Stay positive!
Thanks for the kind and wise words. Have to say that trawling google did help me to stop drinking ( stopping so far so good) -as well as spooking me! Exploring the diet idea (and hoping it’s that) by cutting out wheat as an experiment…
