Pain right side, horrible pain. Liver?

All normal tests and blood work. Pain is constant and all day everyday and has been getting worse for 1.5 years. It’s real bad now. I started drinking again a few months ago and haven’t stopped because it’s the only thing that makes me feel better until the next day. I know this is a horrible idea, but the clean bloodwork and every scan mentally it’s screwing with me. Does anyone else have 0 diagnosis with horrible pain? The pain is my whole right side, and I can push on my ribs to make it hurt horribly. I can bend to my left to make hurt worse as well. I have two scopes scheduled but they cannot get me in until September! My GI doc is now thinking it’s ulcers and some other gastro issues. I just know it’s my liver and nothing with show up. Any words would help me here thanks

All my drs just keep trying to tell me it’s Ibs. I had a CT scan scheduled for this month but my dr canceled it because he thinks there nothing wrong with me. I’m getting labs in a week and that’s all I can get for now. My palms are also red. I did test positive for SIBO in February but the antibiotics didn’t fix anything.

Dang. Yea I’m basically getting the same treatment. I’m breaking my wallet while begging and begging for more blood work and scans. Sorry to hear I hope we get resolution before it’s too late.

If you are convinced it’s your liver why are you drinking? The pain could be from multiple causes. Please try and stop drinking, you have normal liver function be glad and don’t go down the self medicate route with alcohol it’s a toxic relationship that will eventually kill your liver!

Yes, I understand how easy it is to say that. Living in miserable pain will sometimes drive you to do whatever necessary to stop it every once in a while.

An ulcer caused my pain there

Yep and I understand that. I have read every article you can think of online and completely understand that many things can cause these pains and my doctor right now is focusing on the ulcer possibility and prescribed me shit for ulcers or whatever and cramping or something. It didn’t do anything and I figured it wouldn’t. Was your pain literally all day everyday and was worse when you pushed on it or stretched? Thanks for the reply

My situation was similar, though it was "discomfort", not pain. Started about a year ago, when I noticed laying on my stomach, felt like an injured rib, but it persisted and gradually became more noticeable. Unrelated to this, I had a Cardiac Calcium CT scan looking at my heart health, and it picked up some cysts in the dome of the liver. Then I had a followup MRI, which showed borderline NAFLD at 4.7% fat content. I was a casual drinker, and quit three years ago, and BMI is excellent, but my risk factors are high cholesterol and hormone treatment for prostate cancer three years ago. Hepatologist said not to worry, can be reversed, but need to lower the cholesterol and excess carbo intake, which has the same effect as drinking-- i.e. spiking insulin, causing conversion of glucose to fat. So I'm trying to adjust my diet and lower cholesterol by taking red yeast rice and niacin to see if I can get it down to 200 (now 225).

Do you still have the pain/discomfort? Mine started as more of a discomfort and has now escalated to major discomfort and pain. Is yours all day every day no matter what? I’ve recently discovered laying directly on a bed of ice actually helps and is comfortable.

Yes, I still feel it, sometimes more than others, but particularly when I lay on it. I’m working hard on diet/exercise and no drinking, hoping it will reverse, but it looks like it will be a long process.

Yes. I need to get much stricter on myself before it’s too late. Just wish they could tell me something

I have had the same for over 8 years! Constant pain in right hand side and feeling that something is under my ribs pushing out. I’ve lost count of the amount of times I have been to the doctors and have had ultrasound scans, MRI scan, blood tests and LFT’s and each time am told everything is ok although I was diagnosed with drug induced hepatitis (from years of paracetamol due to back problems) 18years which left me with liver fibrosis. GP has tried to refer me to specialist but twice I have had my referral rejected saying I don’t need to see a specialist. I was told to stay under 14 units of alcohol a week. But nothing else was advised with diet etc. Now I’ve been told to take laxido every day for 3 months to see what that does as they think it may be my bowels?? I’m going round in circles and know something serious must be going on and am convinced it is my liver. I can’t afford to go private so not sure what else I can do

Wow. Well yes I’m moving into my second year and still have no answers. That gives me a little less hope, really medical care across the world has given me less hope in general over the past few years.
