Wonderful News - portal hypertension reversal

I am filled with joy to let you know that I got my duplex vascular Doppler ultrasound results back and I do NOT have portal hypertension!!! 😁

I have mild cirrhosis. Scarring/fibrosis.

Everything after that is excellent news! Normal pancreas, gallbladder, kidney and SPLEEN! 🥳 it’s 11 cm. Not even borderline large. Just normal !! NO ascites !

They measured and analyzed all (13) of the arteries and veins coming to, from and within my liver. All normal velocities and waveforms, and flowing in the correct direction. Main portal vein 28 cm/sec. Main hepatic artery RI 0.67. Normal.

NO splenoral shunt or paraumbilical recanalization.

i am so happy! This is nothing short of a miracle. I even think there is hope for reversal of the fibrosis. I am so thankful.

🥰🥰

Here’s an article that shows the different stages and potential for regression or reversal:

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

Always stay hopeful and do your best to keep on course for improvement ! I wish an amazing weekend and much love to all of you. Namaste. 🙏

That’s great news and now it’s off your mind you can focus on preventing and reversing damage in your liver. Sending you my best wishes.

Thank you so much Corin! Yes, the first step is no portal hypertension. Check! ✔️!! 😊

In the article shown from the link I provided it has a pictorial chart showing the potential for reversal (of cirrhosis). I’m hovering between the far left or second. It is doable. I am certain! My hepatologist said it will not get worse - just keep doing what I’m doing! I saw her last week.

I am so certain that this can be done now. The only risk now is liver cancer, and I am taking Lipitor (atorvastatin ) for this which is proven to reduce the risk substantially.!

My bloodwork is normal except my platelets which I intend to reign in. 😂 I will combat my spleen and its overinflated ego- now that I know it is only a meager 11 cm. Lol. Ok maybe I’ve lost it. 🤣

I just want to say that there is always hope.

Hello love.Well done ...thats great news..

I'm sure your so happy with that, you should be.

You also have a good SOH,which can make such a difference.

I'm afraid I've still got what my consultant classes as significant portal hypertension!!!

Oh well we plough on.

Best wishes.

Chris

hi Chris, thank you. You are a very kind person.

From what I have read, the few things that can reduce portal hypertension are exercise, beta blockers, and statins (besides eliminating the causative factor). I know statins aren’t as overly used in the UK as here in the US. Maybe overused here.? 🤷‍♀️ But, they have been found to reduce portal hypertension.

Exercise does reduce it. There are studies that show it.

I hope you can reduce it so it’s not significant anymore. 🙏

Maybe ask your doctor about this in more detail ? The increased exercise has helped me a lot.

Hope this helps !

That is amazing news and thanks for sharing. Gives me hope! On the carvedilol like Chris there for the ole portal hypertension too. I must ask about statins when I’m in next. I can’t really do much excercise though apart from Chi Kung as I’m to weak. Must try harder 👍

Well done you 🌻

thanks sweetie! Baby steps. One thing at a time. 🥰. I’m so glad that I have some facts.

Keep up your Chi Kung! Every little bit adds up.

I sure as hell am ! I know that cirrhosis reversal is not completely out of reach since my vascular system is normal! I am so thankful. My body is fixing itself.

I can’t believe it.

Were you diagnosed with portal hypertension before?

Greengal314 profile image
Greengal314 in reply toLinakes

Yes mild. Attributing it to trace ascites and borderline splenomagly which were completely normal on the last (and more detailed) ultrasound.

The most recent one also showed the bloodflow -it was a different type of ultrasound.

What did you do to reverse it?

Greengal314 profile image
Greengal314 in reply toLinakes

Stopped drinking, low sodium and exercise.

Exercise just on its own has shown to reduce hypertension (regular and portal). I do power yoga and walking.

I took Lipitor (small dose) for almost a year. Carvedillol (tiny dose)for 6 months.

The one thing is to lower your heart rate. The Carvedillol does that but the exercise does that without the meds. So exercise is super good regardless.

That's fantastic news x
