Very yellow but GP says I'm not jaundiced

Hello everyone,

I had my gallbladder removed in 2007.

Over the past 3+ years I have noticed my skin gradually becoming more yellow.

I had what I think was a biliary attack last November, extreme pain vomitting etc. I have been very unwell since, losing about 2 stones in weight since (not i tended/needed).

My GP, though nice, is very unconcerned as my Liver Function tests are ok, aside from recent gradually rising Amylase level, now at 118.

I have classic gallstone pain symptoms, right upper quadrant, often taking my breath away, various times over past couple of years prolonged and bad enough to have Paramedics/Ambulance come out, and 3 times a&e visits, to no avail.

I found a scientific paper that talked about the possibility of a small stone causing jaundice as it allowed some bile to move passed it without completely blocking the duct.

Can anyone throw any light on what might be going on?I am happy that my Liver function is fine, but my GPs lack of concern, and therefore no urge to try and get me seen as an outpatient, given the current state of hospitals and actually getting an appointment it's really worrying me, I know leaving pancreatic problems (rising Amylase 😐) is very dangerous, and I must say that on one of my a&e visits they gave me oramorph and the pain I felt after that was un-describable, and giving birth was more 'fun', especially when the staff shut the door on the room I was in when I was crying so hard for them to help me, saying the pain had gone through the roof After the oramorph. I now understand it can cause big problems with the pancreas.

Thank you xx

Hi there. It doesn't sound like your gp is treating this seriously. If you are in that amount of pain, I think you need to get this checked out. Maybe see your gp again.

I mentioned this condition on another thread where someone also with no gall bladder was experiencing 'biliary pain' - Sphincter of Oddi Disfunction which is more common in patients who have had their gall bladder removed. Perhaps worth a read through and may provide a tool to push for further investigation.gutscharity.org.uk/advice-a...

Best wishes, Katie

I think you should get in rich with your specialist… GP are not trained to treat rare condition, make sure you get see by someone if YOU feel unwell or you have worries. Good luck keep us posted

Doesn't sound like MePo has been referred to a consultant / specialist in the NHS and that is the problem.

To help stomach acid make sure food is fully broken down in stomach in case partly broken down food passes to small intestine and creates a problem for the bile and could then build up uncomfortable unfriendly bacteria, then requiring probiotics. Then probiotics can assist the release of bilirubin from the bile which passes out of the large intestine and the bile is reabsorbed into blood and back to liver.
