My Gastro has just prescribed Ursodeoxycholic acid for bile gastritis.Im a bit hesitant to take it due to side effects .Is this urso???? When I've looked it up it says hair loss dry eyes etc am I getting these drugs confused or are they the same?

I don't have PBC that I know of no ALP rises and negative on liver autoimmune panel.

Does anyone have experiences with this drug ?

Thanks

Yes, this is Urso. I have been taking it for over a year. 500mg twice a day. I had consist gallstones and ERCPs since gallbladder could not be removed. The Ursodiol has helped with no side effects.Good luck.

That's good to know thanks.Ive got hairloss and tachycardia already. They think it's due to my gallbladder being removed due for an EUS soon Side effects stomach pain, nausea and vomitting headaches dizzibess already got the pain headaches and dizziness just reluctant to have anymore symptoms added plus I have allergies and Gilbert's Gastro didn't go over the side effects just issued it

I've been on a high dose of Urso for four years. I've had no side effects, though I did have to split mine into 2 or 3 doses a day for the first few months. I get a bit nauseous if I don't take them with food. I had my gallbladder out too. I would ring your consultant's secretary to ask why you've been put on urso.

Gastro said as I have bilary gastritis it may help with the pain bloating wing and acid I have as PPIs aren't working.I am awaiting a SEHCAT scan to see if I have bile acid diarrhoea.dose of URSO is 1 Capsule 250mg daily just after food

I'm on 5x that much but I have PBC. Hairloss could easily be caused by other stomach issues, basically anything that stops you absorbing and storing nutrients properly.

I was diagnosed with PSC and prescribed Urso. I was taking it for several years. I cannot remember any side effects at all. Good luck.

Hi Paula, yes I have experience with this as I have pbc and I believe the first week or so, your body is getting used to it so a few more toilet trips, however I have now been on it for 2-3 years at the dose of 1 am 1pm 500mg each time. I did stop it as the side effect were odd told my gastroenteritis consultant and by the time I saw her, I said I would try it again and then I was ok.

I do not have urgent toilet needs now, it's settled my stomach. However I also now have FND functional nurological Disorder where I need to take extra painkillers eg codine so that does the opposite and makes me constipated a bit.

I discussed this with my doctor and she even said think about reducing this to 1 per day at my descretion instead of 2.

All I can say is it worked for me as I had 3 colonoscopies, one CT and 1 mri to try and work out what was wrong, it was put down to stress as medically there was nothing wrong with the bowel working, yes I have indentation in my gastro intestinal stuff, but the tablet keep this under control.

So it's just the initial but 1-2 weeks that maybe a bit inconvenient, but that's the same with most other tablets anyway.

Drop me a line via here if you need any more info

Yes mine took 1-2 years to sort out, have a look at your stress in your life and see if you can get rid of that, as my FND came on because of stress and my doctor says I have come a long way since the collapse, but I want to be back at it 24/7. Body says no and my doctor says take it easy on yourself . Not easy as we all feel go go go in today's society.

Hi Paula, I’ve been on Urso for nearly 10 years and my Mum also took it. No side effects for either of us. Starting any new medication it’s a good idea to start on a low dose and/or split the dose across the day while you get used to it. Talk to your pharmacist if you’re worried, they are often better than doctors when it comes to advising about medication.

been on it before, no major side effects apart from feeling slightly bloated. Remember most medicine is a balancing act and there is rarely a free ride- the hope is the potential side effects are easier to live with the symptoms they are targeting.

Hi Paula.I have many symptoms and have had many many tests like you.

Can I ask what is your diagnosis please ( liver).?

I had sehcat, hida, ct, ultrasounds, Sibo....everything. The only thing that showed my liver disease was a biopsy which showed Nodular Regenerative Hyperplasia.

I have terrible stomach and bowel issues, breathing issues and fast heart and palpitations, hairloss, dry mouth, tired, no energy, headaches, dizziness....and so on
