Hi
I was given Renapro shake powders and Meritene shake powders - 4 of each a day by liver team. They helped with massive weight and muscle loss.
Just mix with water or milk.
Complan is a well known one, which are mixed with milk to form a milkshake. You can buy them (expensive) or get them prescribed. I discovered a quick way to get my protein levels up. I added milk powder to whole milk and then wizzed in a blender with fresh fruit. It’s not quite the same as protein enhanced ones so you need to check with a dietician on your exact requirements - but it’s a useful way of enhancing your protein intake with minimum fuss.
anything high protein, low carbs/fat is good, depending on your requirements.
Renapro, whey isolate, concentrate etc are good. As are foods high in protein, low in fat etc obv.
Be careful with too many like Fortisips and complan, ready to drink shakes etc, they have only meagre improvements in protein and are ,ore often than not full of simple carbs and fat. The above was from my nutrition team. But ymmv. Always discuss with yours or your consultant first
I struggled to get enough protein, had to get 130-160g protein per day and I am ordinarily veggie, so ended up being forced to eat chicken to get anywhere close to the required amount of protein.
Fortisips, Renapro, Complan all made me hurl pre-tp, there is one other, can't remmember the name I think it starts with an A it tasted and looked like recycled baby poop, ugh...I want to just hurl thinking about it.
and then I discovered
Something called "Serious Protein", I found it on Amazon, am sure you can get it other places too. Was approved by my dietician team, it's a 5 kg tub, I chose vanilla flavour, but it comes in other flavours too, mixing it with milk adds extra protein or just having it with water works too.
Definitely worth blending it, in my shaker it just ended up with lumps of powder, but in my blender it was nice and smooth, little bit sweet though.
Post tp, I drink Fortisips no problem, though dieticians told me Fortisips contain 18g of protein, their website says they contain 12g of protein per 125ml.
at my worst I had to get in 190g a day, as above I took high protein supplements I knew about from my gym days. 4 drinks of 50g each is much easier than 10 @ 20. But you need to check the ingredients, not all are made equal.
Whey isolate is a good choice. You have to read the labels though because many manufacturers pack a lot of other supplements in with it. When in doubt have a nutritionist or doc review the label. For the higher quality whey it’s typically a little more.
Also, be sure to get unflavored with no added sugars or sugar substitutes. My specialist last week went on about how bad artificial sweeteners are even though I avoid them.

Do you want to lose weight ?
Hi, thats right, i have irreversible liver damage so I've been piling on the pounds, so much I'm worried I won't be able to fit through the door fir my next appointment.Thank you for your concern.
Keep well
Regards
it’s an unfortunate side effect unfortunately, if too much damage has been done your liver will begin bulking your torso up with everything and anything, including your limb muscles
I suggest looking into a highly reputable whey isolate with no sweetener. Out of the million powders out there prob 1% are legit. Also send the specialist the label/nutrition info.
