Unneeded Protein Shakes

Good morning. After having an early spring clean, I still have boxes of Meritene Shakes (Strawberry & Chocolate & Chicken Soup) I will keep some for emergencies should I need them but would it be acceptable to give the remaining 10 boxes (15 sachets per box) to a food bank? All are in date 2021 and we’re prescribed by my Dr. It seems such a waste to throw them all away.

If they were prescribed - you can try to take them back to the pharmacy that supplied them ?

They may be able to help redistribute them, or offer suggestions for your local area.

Interesting you got them prescribed as my GP practice won't prescribe these, but I got Aymes instead ( which is revolting) Meritene are much nicer. I would take some off your hands if I could.

I will have unused dressing items after surgery & was told the pharmacy would just destroy them, but the community nurse team could use them after making them Covid secure. Hope that helps😊

Not sure how you could have the chocolate ones, they are an acquired taste😖😉

Unless things have changed, which l hope they have ..... I had to return all prescribed protein shakes to the pharmacy to be destroyed along with any other unopened medication even if within the use by date. Seems an incredible waste to me but that was over 10 years ago, maybe someone has seen sense now🤷🏻‍♀️

Hi Laura. I asked my Pharmarcy if they would accept them back and was told no and to check with which ever food bank I wanted to donate to about their policy on taking the items a as they were prescribed. I also have 2 unopened boxes of Renapro shots (I keep some for emergencies in my travel bag). It’s such a same as they are not cheap to buy. They were a god send pre TP when I was deteriorating and simply couldn’t eat and they then helped build strength afterwards. I’m now eating healthily and have found that I can’t manage both in my diet now.

Good to hear you are doing well post TP. It is a shame to waste them, as you say, they aren't cheap. I hope you continue to do well.🤗

Laura, I had the same issue last year. So many prescribed items returned to the pharmacy and they said they can't be used, despite clearly being unopened or used.

I felt this was such a waste too. Surely it could be used somehow.

Pharmacy would destroy them but any charity that sends parcels to overseas refuge centers would be happy to have them.
