I have compensated cirrhosis. I like writing this as previously I was decompensated and very ill. Delighted that my recent bloods look really good, all normal apart from 2 inflammation/infection markers, even my liver function tests were normal for the first time in many years!
I have had a few "blips" as most alcoholics do but with the help of good rehab am on a better path.
My question is: I still have residual symptoms, some I understand will be permanent and I can live with but 2 I struggle with. I have appallingly painful feet but they have been diagnosed as variously peripheral neuropathy and rheumatoid arthritis. 2-my hair keeps falling out, I'll be bald soon. I am 61 so post menopausal which may account for some of this but I am told that Omeprazole blocks mineral absorption. Could this be a factor? I take bucketloads of various B vits and also D and my diet is healthy
Thanks all
Wendy

Hi there oldboiler, I'm in a similar situation, I'm sober for 11 years now, but prior to that I was a chronic alcoholic, and have had numerous issues with my stomach, I've been on omeprazole on and off for many years and they cause B12 deficiency which cause similar problems like neuropathy which I also suffer with, but I'm receiving B12 injections to keep in top of the symptoms and the problems it causes, it's a known fact that proton pump inhibitors like omeprazole can cause absorption problems , symptoms are likely to be shortage of breath, muscles spasms, eyes lids flickering, a tingling tongue, a chest thumping sensation, and mouth ulcers, and tinnitus, I've had the neuropathy for 11 years, and it's important not to get the different symptoms mixed up, I'm surprised if you take omeprazole on a regular basis your B12 wasn't low, but it all depends on how long you've been taking them for, some people can't absorb B12 properly, especially if they've also had many general anaesthetics, the nitrous oxide also affects the way the stomach works in the future, and I've had numerous operations, and I've had problems with my stomach, I don't know if it's worth asking if your bloods were checked for B12, and if you're having any B12 symptoms, that's where you need to figure out from neuropathy and the B12 deficiency, as they are both horrible conditions and you can't really tell as they are both mimicking each other, best of luck 🙂
