Hi. I need to lose weight having been diagnosed with cirrhosis and being significantly overweight. I will talk to my doctor about it but just wanted to ask if anyone has had experience of using the new weight loss meds on the market with cirrhosis. I understand they’re under the brand names of Ozempic or Wegovy and are considered generally safe meds although I don’t know whether there are any risks with cirrhosis. Thanks if you have any info.

Ho Downpour, I don’t know anything about the new meds but your GP or consultant may be able to give you a referral to a dietician who can support and advise. There is also information on the BLT website and the NHS website. If you Google you’ll find all sorts of fads that may not actually be good for you. Stick with the professionals
I take Ozipic but for my diabetes I have PBC I did loose 5 stone over the last two years
Good luck it’s not easy I need to go back to swimming to help keep the weight off and help with the leg pains take care 🥹
I am injecting Ozempic but I'm type 2 diabetic and have been prescribed it for that reason. I also have NASH cirrhosis (compensated). I have lost 2 stone since taking it but its still a struggle keeping it off. It does take the edge off appetite but isn't a miracle weight loss drug. It takes a lot of determination and sticking to a healthy eating plan too. My kpa has reduced from 36.6 to 13.4 so I'm very happy with that but I know I have to be forever careful to watch my weight.
hello, I took wegovy and it was fine , my sister in law is a gastroenterologist and she told me it’s fine to take with cirrhosis
not sure if this helps but I take rybelsus which is another version of it, I take it for type 2 Diebetes and I also questioned its safety with cirrohsis but my dr said it is fine, you need to ask your own dr though as she will know all your history, good luck, it does help lose weight but as Robert says you need to still work hard at it xx
