Good morning, what I'm going to talk about is rather yuk but, can I ask the group if anyone has had q problem with bile leaks. I felt my stomach burn it started under my ribcage on the upper right. I felt it run down through my stomach and my intestinal track and without it sounding horrible, it ended up in the toilet.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this please. I have left a message with my consultant secretary and she is very good and will contact him on my behalf.
AIH and PBC overlap.
Thanks for any insights xx

hi. As well as liver fibrosis. I have a condition called bile acid malabsorption. A lot of people without their gallbladder get it, but I still have mine. They think mine is due to the liver prodding poor quality bile. Anyway, more so when I’ve eaten, I have a lot of bile on my system and then I end up with diarrhoea. But it can also be bad when I’ve not eaten anything so I find eating little and often is better for me. I used to be sick a lot too but I’m on a bile sequestrant drug colesevelam which helps. I get bile leakage so my backside is always sore.
Hi, thank you for your reply. I had my gall bladder removed about 8 years ago. I have never had bike issues though. I take urso, which helps produce bile and control my PBC. I also have AIH and NAFLD, basically fatty liver. Wouldn't mind but I eat well, no crap or sweets or crisps etc.
I have had stomach issues related to this liver conditions for a while but never this.
And yes, my bum is also sore because of yesterday and my stomach is on fire still this morning.
My consultant is away but, I have been put in touch with a liver nurse, who will be calling today.
Gallbladder removal is the most common cause, so not surprised. You need to speak to a gastro consultant ideally. And the eating healthy bit is not necessarily good - eg foods that need more bile to digest are fats, leaves, seeds and skins, so things like a salad are awful! I can only eat carbs like bread, potatoes, rice, pasta, oats, bananas and some berries, chicken and white fish. I love Salmon but when I eat it, it goes straight through me. I don't eat much dairy - I don't drink tea or coffee so never have milk, I use a dairy free spread. I can't eat eggs at all. Artificial sweeteners found in some diet foods and drinks also cause me issues. Luckily I like cold water and drink plenty of that all day. Have a look on the bad-uk.org website for information. My GP had never heard of it and from talking with others, a lot haven't. Good luck.
I had a major bile leak after my tp, where the joint burst apart. The pain was unbelievable, and nothing touched it. It however just sat in my abdomen and didn’t go anywhere except out my still healing drain wound, into a bag.
Hi Alley27 there is lots of things the doctors can do but the first thing is you wait for the consultant to get back to you,it is a pain waiting but they will make the best decisions. I had lots of trouble with my bile gland and tube and they they have different procedures for different things. It’s horrible waiting but they will come up with the right thing. Good luck 💕💕
