Hi,
Apologies in advance for the long story but I have been so worried about this and am hoping there may be someone on here with similar experience who may be able to reassure me. I am a 65 year old female. I rarely drink alcohol, am only 5 lbs into the overweight bracket, do some form of exercise at least 5 days a week and I am not diabetic. I went to the GP due to altered bowel movements that had been ongoing for some times. Poo tests and bloods did not show any potential bowel issues but I am having a colonoscopy to be sure. The bloods have, however, thrown up some other issues: ALT 352; AST 381; Fib 4 score of 5.82. Also ANA positive Titre Units 1280. Slightly elevated are gamma 58; Alkaline phosphate 182: Ferritin 315. Everything else normal, including all varieties of hepatitis and cell tissue autoab. The first elevated blood test meant I was referred for ultrasound- which I have on the 18th April. But when the more detailed results with the high Fib4 score came back, I was referred to what was supposed to be a hepatologist with a view to a Fibroscan. Unfortunately, the consultant I saw said I’d been referred to the wrong person ( he was an upper GI surgeon) and that he will refer back to my GP. In the meantime I’m so worried about it all. I don’t have symptoms of liver disease other than the bowel change which I understand can be a symptom? So, to get to the point and my questions – Will an ultrasound scan show me anything? With those bloods and Fib 4 score should I push for a Fibroscan and a liver specialist consultation?
Are there any other blood tests that I should request that may indicate the cause? Without knowing why this could have happened I’m not sure what to change about my lifestyle. I feel as though I live and eat healthily. So sorry for the ramble but it’s good to unload all that 😳.
Thank you for taking the trouble to read this.
