Hello, it first depends on the unit, I understand that it is in µmol/L. Are you sure it's 278, no decimal point 27.8?
If it is 278 I think it is quite high, you should contact your GP. what is your level now?
hi. Yes its very high(sorry). Normal level should be around 18-22. However when i was admitted to hospital in May last year mine was 358 and I was very yellow (billirubin causes jaundice). 9 months on my liver is now compensated, ascites has gone and billirubin is normal. I was in hispital for 5 weeks with a less than 50% chance of life. You can turn this around 😀
unfortunately I have PSc so things will only get worse until transplant
That'll explain it. Yes even your current level is very high.
I understand with cholestatic diseases like PSC bilirubin can get very high. Fortunately for me, whilst it was always raised it was never that high. Think the highest for me was in the 90s, lol. So yes bilirubin in the couple of hundreds is very high. You'd probably look more yellow than Homer Simpson and have eyes the colour of the Grufalo's, lol.
Anything over 30 is high.
