Afternoon all, hope everyone is good today. I posted a couple of weeks ago, i had ggt of 699 & alp of 332. Ive had more bloods done last week & ggt is now 479 & alp is 273. Had An ultrasound which the doc said was clear but nothing else. Any help or advice about this pls & what it could be causing these high results. I also have osteoporosis. No drink since 1st jan. thanks

Hello there. Well done with the abstaining......that can only help.

Well the numbers are certainly heading in the right direction, so that should give some reassurance....the same with the ultrasound, all clear...also good.

What i will say just to reassure you ,is my ggt was at my last bloods 395.....also I've not touched alcohol in exactly 4 years.....certain medications can also affect it.

It is not just alcohol that affects it.

I do take a certain painkiller......for my sciatica..... my gastro consultant was happy to prescibe it as I'm currently compensated. It seems to hover around that figure, and consultant classes that as my normal levels. I've just had bloods done again, so I shall see what the results are again in about a week!!.

Take care. Chris

Thank you for your reply, I’ve just not been told anything by my drs just that the ultrascan is clear & don’t need further action. I’ve no idea if I have fatty liver or even worse. I do take adcal D3 & alendronic acid for my osteoporosis & the occasional cocodamol recently as I have some muscle damage in my arm but that’s all. Maybe I should spk to the drs but getting an appointment is ridiculous at the moment.

Do you have cirrhosis tho redpoint?

Oh yes ,cirrhosis diagnosis 4 years ago unfortunately. Sounds to me as you really need to get on to your gp....and get clarification.....sometimes we have to keep asking them for more detail.

in reply toredpoint72

sorry to hear that redpoint..hope it’s not causing too many difficulties for you. Looks like I’m gonna have to go back to see drs then when I can get an appointment.

Well it is as it is,I can't go back ....just try and make the best of things.but as is the same as many other folk on here, there are most certainly difficult times..Get back in touch with gp ,and take it from there, but try and take some reassurance from what they have told you.....they are the professionals after all.

My best.Chris

Cheers for that. Playing the waiting game once more!!!

It’s annoying isn’t it? I’m really frightened to find out what the drs tell me but I need to know ( I think).

Its really best to know results.....then we can face it head on and deal with it as best we can. Just remember, worrying doesn't help us one bit,it just creates more turmoil. I wish you well .

My best.Chris

I know you are right but I just keep thinking the drs have not asked me back in & my bloods are coming down as well as the ultra sound being clear, maybe it’s not that bad.

Thank you chris…will do!! Have a good day

I thought my GGT was bad at 528 about a year and a half ago I've been diagnosed with a fatty liver, but I had a relapse Xmas and it went up to 87

in reply to

Do you mean it went up to 870…not 87

in reply to

No it went down to normal, but Xmas and boxing day I relapse and it went up to 87 I still get a lot of pain in my liver area though.

so your ggt hit 528 then eventually dropped to normal? Was your alp high?

I think so

in reply to

well done on getting them down

Thanks, there's something wrong with my insides had another lft and pancreas test yesterday.

Was this set of bloods ordered by your doctor this time or more you've done at home?

Home, had the hospital one Wednesday waiting on results

Hi Katie I rang the surgery this morning and the receptionist said my liver function test was normal, no further action needed, but she never said anything about the pancreatitis test I'm waiting for the doctor to ring me today.
