hi there , have you had an ultrasound? My husbands were through the roof , his GGT were 1500 ALP 550 turns out he has gall stones and 3 stones are impacted in his bile duct , he is waiting to get them removed. Sometimes they can pass on their own . What is your GP doing about it

Are you a drinker? Sorry for the personal question, but I was a very heavy drinker and last year my LFT results were off the chart, my GGT was over 1800 for example. I quit drinking, started to eat healthy and exercise regular and they are now all back to normal levels apart from my alkaline phosphate which is slightly elevated, but I think I know what that’s about, likely bone related. Either way you will need or should seek to get some further tests carried out, like an ultra sound and a fibro-scan if you can to detect if there is any damage to the liver, gallbladder etc. Hopefully it’s just nothing, LFT results can go up and down due to infection, medication, stress, being over weight or under weight and other things. Good luck!

That’s great that you’ve stopped drinking, from what one of my doctors told me a high GGT is basically a sign that the liver is being abused by something, with me it was alcohol. I’m 11 months sober this week and it has went back to normal as have everything else basically. Again mine was over 1800 and it took months of sobriety for it to get down to acceptable levels. Good luck and hopefully a month off of drinking will see yours return to normal.

No I don’t drink at all. I did have a gallbladder perforation in November and Sepsis in Oct so I’m assuming it’s linked as they couldn’t remove the gallbladder at the time so could only use antibiotics

So it could all be related, hopefully you will get answers soon and everything resolves for you. Good luck!

Good morning and welcome to the forum. We ask that users do NOT post any test results or ask for specific comment on such. Test results vary according to both the individual’s whole health and the laboratory analysing the results and should, therefore, always be interpreted by the user’s own doctors/health care professionals.

If you are in the UK and would find it useful to talk things over, our nurse-led helpline is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 3pm on 0800 652 7330 (excluding bank holidays)

Best wishes
