I am 2 weeks post liver transplant. Just had a thought that I am carry round Carex hand sanitiser gel which I use all the time, but just realised it contains 70% Alcohol.
Is this okay to use as know you should not use mouth wash that has alcohol in it
thanks

Just seen a US guide for post liver transplant patients which states "Frequent handwashing by you and your family is the most effective way to avoid infection. Use antibacterial soap or alcohol based hand-sanitizer".
I presume you were sanitizing whilst moving about the hospital .... in which case you were using an alcohol based one then. Alcohol based ones are the only kind that were effective against covid.
Check with t/p team if you are concerned but I imagine its fine to use your gel when needed - better than getting an infection.
Hope you are doing ok with new liver bedding in alright.
thanks Katie. Yes I was using in hospital so I’ll continue.
Yes I am doing well post transplant. It’s been 2 weeks and I have picked up an infection on the cut side of the transplanted liver but hopefully antibiotics will clear this.
My white blood cells in the meantime have gone into overdrive to fight the infection which i obviously don’t want as they will attack the liver too
Prior to this liver issue I never got poorly from colds, flu, stomach upsets etc and haven’t had a day off work in 32 years. Guess that’s down to having white blood cells that have always served me well in the past even pre transplant as I was quite well prior to the operation. I have been lucky to get a transplant which was mainly due to being so close to the hospital I could get there quickly when someone else couldn’t.
I have my next blood tests on Tuesday and a scan so fingers crossed the infection is under control.
I am sure they'll sort out your infection and hope you go on to have a super recovery and healthy life going forward.
It's my hubby who has cirrhosis (due to Auto Immune hepatitis) diagnosed after a massive variceal bleed 2012, listed for t/p 2014 into 2015, delisted again as his health/liver numbers improved and still ticking along now, compensated and doing 'ok' in the grand scheme of things. Still under a doctor at t/p hospital (Edinburgh) plus a gastro locally in Ayrshire.
Hi we asked at the hospital as my wife was worried about any effect they told us it is not alcohol as we know it and it will cause no problems at all Dave
