So I had a scan at the start of December, found a lesion on my liver which is questionable.Had ct scan which still couldn’t determine what it is . Been waiting since 21st December for MRI appointment. Rang today and it’s with radiologist. What a crap festive season it’s been . How to people cope with waiting . Can’t sleep , sleeping tablets don’t help ! Running on emptyI have Pbc/aih with stage 4 cirrhosis.

My hubby twice waited 12 weeks for an 'urgent' MRI scan following some lesions showing up on his 6 monthly monitoring ultrasound. Fortunately in both cases his lumpy bits were just some benign more dense areas of cirrhotic tissue but they couldn't determine that on u/s. He too has cirrhosis due to auto immune liver disease.

Hope you get an appointment soon and the all clear after that.

I think the way you've got to look at it is (and it's what we did when we were waiting) these things (whatever they are) were there before you knew about them & you weren't worried about them then, the only thing that has changed is you now know about them. Obviously there is a fear factor as to what they may be but you wouldn't have worried about them if you didn't know they were there. Does that make sense??

Also, they do the scans so that things can be picked up timeously and for any necessary treatment to commence so you have the ability to wait a bit.

It is rare (but not impossible) for someone with an auto immune liver disease to develop HCC (which is obviously the concern) - much more common in the viral, genetic and lifestyle related conditions.

Hopefully you'll get in soon.

aah thanks for replying so quick . This is a lesion that has showed up since my last scan so they are concerned it it HCC . Feel Ill waiting . It’s just not knowing what I’m dealing with . Rang the appointment line this morning which was a waste of time .

Fingers crossed I hear soon

That's how they described hubbies lumps - unknown lesion, ? HCC but in the end they were just denser areas of cirrhotic tissue. Showed up on his 6 monthly ultrasound. He has also got a few haemangioma and liver cysts which were also seen on scans.

Fingers crossed for you.

Good stuff, glad you've got an appointment so quickly. The next thing will be waiting for results but hopefully they'll come fairly quickly after the scan and your doctor will feed results back to you.

Dear She-66

Until forum members have chance to reply you may find it useful to talk things over with one of the nurses on our helpline. It's open Monday to Friday from 9am to 3pm on 0800 652 7330 (excluding bank holidays)

Best wishes

It’s when you’re at that point that it’s good to talk. I’m sure the nurses are used to tears. Have tissues to hand and make the call anyway - big hug

yea I’ve gall stones too lol

Had the mri …. Got into the ‘tube’ and had a wobbler. Had to come straight out again . After a good amount of deep breathing and pep talking from the radiologist I managed to get back in and get the mri done. Wasn’t the best experience I’ve had lol
