Post operative acute hepatitis

I had an operation in May which left me after the operation with acute hepatitis from what they think was a reaction to a drug used in the operation.

Should I still be feeling really tried. I do have pernicious anaemia, B12 deficiency, Vitamin D deficiency and currently Folate deficiency.

I try to eat a good diet and exercise but currently too tired to do much - any suggestions if this could be related to the operation or if its more likely the deficiencies. Also any pointers for food - can't tolerate pepper and some herbs so struggle with certain meals.

Thanks guys for any pointers or help/advice. And all the best for 2023

What are your liver inflammation levels looking like now? Is your ALT still elevated or has this now left you with a drug induced liver injury / caused longer term issues.?

Obviously the anaemia and other issues you have can lead to fatigue but just wondering if the acute hepatitis / DILI has lead to something like auto immune hepatitis with the tiredness. Were you put on steroids to bring inflammation down?

Sounds like you need more investigations into how your liver is doing.

Thanks for the reply. My ALT as far as I know came down about 10 days after the operation but I've not had it checked since. I think it needs checking again. I'm expected a fibroscan early in the new year and I'm going to push for Liver Function Test bloods at same time. I wondered about the autoimmune hepatitis as I have other autoimmune problems. I think I'm going to contact my consultant and see if I can bring my next appointment forward. Thanks again for the reply.

You need the blood tests before the fibroscan because any ongoing inflammation can cause a false elevation of fibroscan kPa score - fibroscan can not tell the difference between actual fibrosis and inflamed liver so it is imperative to know what your inflammation markers are like before having fibroscan.

Thanks for steering me right. I'll ask the consultant for the bloods before the fibroscan so that I know where I am before hand. Thanks for the advice - it's great to get help from other people who have been there, etc. Thanks again. 😀
