Hello everyone! Hope I find you well. Long story short I've used to love drinking and I've always had tolerance towards it so I was consuming large amounts during my early 20's. Now Im 27y male and for the past two years I was literally addicted to alcohol and consumed alcohol almost everyday. At first I started with beer, then I went t vodka and most days I consumed 500ml 3 days a week till last month. Then I got my wake up call and decided I will stop this slow suicide and went family doctor who sent me to make some blood tests.
Ast 28.9 (0-42) U/L
Alt 51.20 (0-41) U/L
Ggt 108 (0-60) U/L. Everything else was OK. I got really scared because I also begin to feel some discomfort in the right abdomen and anxiety. I could not go to the doctor because I went on a commercial ship for work and our next port will be after a month. My dad was alcoholic but he stopped and never looked back so I was also vunerable to addiction. i dont feel any other symptoms besides the discomfort in the liver area and some weight gain. I turn my back to alcohol and im almost two weeks clean. When we go to the next port I'll visit a specialist to do proper check.I know you cant give me diagnose but I want to know if I have to worry about what I've done to harm my health? Can this damage be reversed? And what should I do besides quitting alcohol? The more I read the more I feel worse about this discomfort in the liver area.. Thanks in advance and sorry for my english, it is not native to me. Hope you are all well and healthy!

Best thing to do is see and speak to a professional who can help you interpret your blood results.
On the face of it, they aren't looking too bad, but they're only 3 results from a basket of many.
GGT is a bit high though, but should reduce if you keep abstinent and seek specialist advice. For reference, mine has been at about 2,500 at one point, but remember that no two people are the same and what for one might be a complete hammering, for someone else it can be relatively minor. The liver is a wonderful organ, but the help of a consultant is what you're really looking for.
firstly your English is great. Secondly, the best thing you can do is stop drinking and you have already done this, 2 weeks alcohol free is brilliant and you should feel very proud of yourself, it doesnt matter what you drink, beer, vodka, they can all do damage. Hopefully you will see a doctor soon and then you will know exactly what you are dealing with, anything I say to you will be complete speculation. The main thing is that even in a person who has serious liver damage you can make huge improvements by eating a healthy balance low salt diet and completely avoiding alcohol. Good luck
hi first of all please stop worrying, your liver tests can be reversed if you stay away from alcohol, eat a healthy balanced diet and keep exercising. That’s a good plan to see a specialist, they will be able to give you a proper diagnosis. Please don’t use “Dr Google “ , it’s often very inaccurate and just plain scary. Good luck, stay well xx
Hi K2, I'd echo the response from Harting/others and go see a consultant. If weight gain it could be ascites generated by your liver, serious illness can sneak up on you so best to get symptoms checked out as early as possible.
