Liver disease

24 yrs. ago I was diagnosed with Hep. C. 10 yrs. later a doctor told me that I had scarring on my liver which he told me was called fibrosis. a year ago I was told that I had cirrhosis.

I had a fibroscan and this new doctor said she wasn't sure if I have cirrhosis or not.

I have no symptoms, the blood flow to other organs and my liver are not restricted, I have changed my diet and I exercise.

I asked the doctor to do a biopsy to be sure about the cirrhosis

when having my gall bladder removed another specialist told me that fibrosis is the same as cirrhosis.

I'm totally confused now, can you help me understand what is happening to my liver.

I would just ask you Doctor for treatment for Hep C (your post doesn't say anything about getting treatment). Then if caught early (mild stages) great improvements can take place for many (not all) patients. There is medicine. There are many places to look online for more information than anyone can provide here, just google Hep C Fibrosis Treatment, diet, etc. I am sure your doctor knows what to do. I would personally not have a biopsy at this stage, I would just start the medicines. Biopsy can be unpleasant.

Good luck, you no not have to hit the panic button, but you need to work with your doctor and you can get better in many cases.

Please not I AM NOT a doctor of any kind, just a message board blabber so feel free to ignore.

The British NHS writes this about HepC

Hey Hidden, fibrosis is not the same as cirrhosis. However if your liver gets really fiberous then yes, it can be cirrhotic. Your specialist should do a fibroscan. But as Ken said it’s more important for you to get treated for hep c. Otherwise your liver will continue to get damaged. Wish you the best.
