I haven’t posted in some time but we saw the Heptologist this week and he has confirmed that my husband has gone from decompensated cirrhosis and a Child’s Pugh score of 10 to 6 or A. He has taken him off nearly all meds he still had diuretics and Lapsoprazole. He said he is good to fly as well. I promptly rust into tears. This is after a total left knee replacement in May that went perfectly apart from getting an infected wound and thereafter extended time in hospital being averaged on again but this under a general that we had been told he could not have. Through all this his liver has been amazing.
So it is possible to go from decompensated to compensated it took three years but here we are looking at possible holiday destinations. The consultant suggested short haul to begin with before we return to Jamaica. I have been deferring the booking since 2019.

Fantastic news. It’s amazing how the liver can bounce back....no wonder doctors find it hard to give a prognosis on liver disease. Reduced meds is fantastic too. Enjoy a trip to somewhere sunny and warm to extend your summer. 😎
Thank you for your very kind words. I begin to express how thrilled I am when I think back to him first being diagnosed and being sent home in a taxi and I not having a clue how to take care of him or what we should do. Then I found all you lovely people so happy to give advice and support. Especially in the dark days of him going for transplant assessment and being deemed too poorly. Then speaking to a different consultant who told us to stop the anti nausea meds and overnight the man I knew returned all the HE symptoms disappeared after two years all caused by the meds. He went for a blood test this morning this for the orthopaedic surgeon and the nurse couldn’t believe the change in him. He was told he mustn’t lose weight quickly well after what happened with his knee and two ops in three weeks he lost around three stone and his liver stayed very happy.
So encouraging for all of us who are really trying to make the most out of this new "reality" we are blessed to be here to experience. Tropics, here you come!🌴
Well done i to have a de compensated liver for 15 months now just gives me hope reading happy stories there its a hard battle but there is light at the end of the tunnel well done
so happy for you and your husband - you’ve both been given a second chance of a happy healthy life . My son is in the same situation your husband was ( apart from the knee ) and your good news has given us hope . Thank you and best wishes Carol xx
