So after a visit to my dentist last week he said my gum health is excellent and he’s not seen a turn around like that in years. I first saw him 2 years ago when I was decompensated, had abscesses and severe gum disease after years of neglect. He said initially he thought he was going to have to start removing teeth(front ones included)because the gums were so receded. But now apparently they have healed and tooth extractions are no longer on the cards. He said whatever your doing just keep doing it!! I wanted to share this to give hope to anyone who is struggling at the moment, or feels overwhelmed about what lies ahead. I know we all have different story’s and circumstances, but it’s amazing what the human body can do when we give it some TLC. 😊

Couldn't agree more, Dean. Amazing what the body can do when we treat it well...

That’s amazing Dean. Well done friend! I had a similar issue. Is that common with cirrhosis? Gums bled every time I brushed. 2 hours of a deep clean, no booze, and special tooth paste and a year later no bleeding!

Hey mate, good result for you too then!! Yeah I think it’s quite common. Low platelets and inflammation in the gums etc.

Very good. The odd thing is when I drank my gums didn’t bleed. Now I just need to get my breath in order. I have those nasty tonsil stones.

Hi deanw41I know it's 7 months since you posted. What did you do to help improve your gums. What toothpaste helped. I'm at my wits end. I get recurring swollen painful gums. I go to hygienist every 3 months. Rinse with warm saltwater. Brush regularly. Use a waterflosser. Lots count of how many antibiotics I've had. Any information to help me I would be very grateful 👍

Hi Skyp,

Well I stopped drinking which gave my liver a chance to recover(inflammation),eat well, worked out and started getting proper sleep. No fancy mouthwashes, toothpastes, pills, potions or lotions, just told old fashioned healing. Are decompensated at the moment?

Thank you for your reply deanw41. Its good to know you are doing so well. I packed up smoking 3 years ago hoping that would improve gums. I will try and cut down drinking as do tend to binge drink😯

Sheer will power.will admit its very very hard.wont say I don't think about onr because I do.i know if I had one puff I be off again 😮I did use nicotine patches in the beginning. If I get really desperate I have couple puffs on a vape that takes the edge off.i smoked for 45 years.was hoping by giving up it would help gums.it had bought my high blood pressure down a bit.yes give it ago.ask your gp surgery for patches nicotine sprays etc....

Thank you. Yes,it’s more I think I should than I wanted to at the moment and I feel that needs to shift if I’m likely to have any success.

Hello mate.

Sorry to comment on such an old posts. Is bleeding gums one of the first symptoms, or do you people usually get symptoms before the gum bleeding begins?

Thanks.

Hi mate, well bleeding gums are very common and caused by gum disease. The bleeding from liver disease is from low platelets. Just because you have bleeding gums doesn’t mean you have Liver disease.
