This opportunity is to join conversations and contribute to the design and planning of a research partnership; planning research into finding patients with cirrhosis who need urgent surgery (for cancer, broken bones or emergencies). The aim is to set up a group across the East Midlands, Yorkshire, and the North East who will focus on designing studies to improve detection of liver disease in patients needing an operation, working out the risk of an operation, finding ways to communicate that risk and working out what to do if the risk is high.

This is hosted by Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, in collaboration with the University of Nottingham, who are looking for a diverse and representative group to be their Patient Advisory Steering Group to support the Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement planned as part of this partnership. They are eager to involve people from anywhere in the UK with the following lived experience:

• advanced liver disease (such as cirrhosis),

• alcohol dependency,

• people from a non-white background,

• anyone with experience of working in Public and Patient Involvement and Engagement (PPIE)

The initial involvement workshop is being held on Zoom on Monday, 5th September at either 2.00 - 4.00pm or 5:30 to 7:30pm. If interested, please state your preference if you have one.

To join, please email: Andrew.Wragg@nuh.nhs.uk

Individual payment to recognise valued contributions will be detailed once attendance is confirmed.

Hello eileenet49,

Whilst the researchers are particularly keen to involve people from a non-white background, others are very welcome to join the conversation too.

If you have advanced liver disease (with or without experience of alcohol dependency) please email to express your interest.

Best wishes,

British Liver Trust
