Hi all
I'm relatively new to the group but have been actively reading posts for a few months now.
QQ please - how significant is a high Ferritin level when other measures are in range?
Many thanks
Mark

How high is your high reading? Are doctors carrying out further tests to establish why you may have an isolated high reading for ferritin.
Hi AyrshireK
Thanks for your reply..
It's 494 - range quoted as 30-401..
I have literally just got the results back and it was a private test so my GP isn't involved as yet..
My ALT was high (106) earlier in the year but is now at 43 following lifestyle changes..
Only issue now seems to be the Ferritin level which I haven't seen before on previous NHS blood tests so was wondering if there was anything to get concerned about..
Many thanks
Mark
It can point to haemochromarosis. Well it did with me. My ferritin was in the thousands. Consultant or gp can arrange for a special dna blood test for you, so demand it. Having haemochromatosis may necessitate a few lifestyle changes and occasional venesections (blood letting), but its a small price for a healthy body and mind. Take care.
