has she had any blood tests or anything else that is making them suspect that there is a liver issue? Liver function blood tests are often requested by the GP in the first instance. While she is waiting for her appointment the very best thing she can do is try and keep away from alcohol and eat a healthy balanced diet

Hi she is having another round of bloods tomorrow as she she had lower white blood cells in her last test which made them think it could be viral so they are testing for hepatitis and EBV she doesn’t drink alcohol but feels constantly full her GP prescribed anti sickness meds but when she takes them she feels even worse .

its interesting that her bloods are not really flagging anything liver related but they are referring to liver specialist. It sounds like they are taking her seriously and are running lots of tests to get to the bottom of whatever it is so she is in good hands. I hope you all get some answers soon

Sorry I should have said she has raised liver enzymes it’s been about 6 weeks since all this started she has had a rapid weight loss no appetite feeling full or nauseous tired but can’t sleep slight yellowish eyes this was the whole reason for the visit to see the GP so first round of bloods showed up the raised liver enzyme’s the second round showed the lower white cells and tomorrow’s are full blood count liver function plus the Hepatitis and EBV she is a very Jekyl and Hyde character at the moment with her mood swings she has always been so laid back she is a twin and so close to her sister who is finding this so heartbreaking we all are .

ok, I understand now, sorry. Well it sounds like they are putting her through lots of tests which will hopefully uncover what is going on. Try not to worry too much in the mean time and don't google as that really isn't helpful - I found the best resource for information to be the British Liver website. It could be something very treatable. It is great she doesnt drink, far better for her liver but keep to a healthy balance diet until you have some answers.

Thank you so much for taking time to reply yes done the Google thing I’m sure everyone does and came across British liver site which does flag more questions than answers I think the waiting is the worst part but we have a great GP who she feels comfortable talking to so I will post once we get more information such a worry but thanks again

Deep breath, it sounds like they are doing all the tests, my advice would be to treat it as a virus: plenty of fluids, rest and eating little but often ( I used to make a big meal, with plenty of protein, carbohydrates and my 5/day, then eat little bits ( heated up in the microwave or cold, every 2 hours by the clock) . I hope she gets the answers soon and then can start on the correct treatment. Good luck.

We have had a letter from the hospital this morning they’ve reviewed the referral she has been put on the outpatient waiting list not sure if good or bad news really any suggestions would be much appreciated is it just because of the backlog of NHS as the GP had put it down as urgent would anyone know

I would take this as good news. They would have no only looked at the referral letter, but also all the blood test results and will no doubt look at the newest set aswell. I'm pretty sure that if it was anything serious they would have her in within 2 weeks for an appointment. I hope the new set of bloods is reassuring and I'm sure your GP will be able to explain the next steps if required.

Hi, I’m sorry to hear that your daughter is poorly. The waiting is horrible you just want answers and to get her well again. I think I’d ring the GP, speak to one of the secretaries, and ask if there is anything the GP can do to speed things up.

On the food front, it might be worth getting something like Fortisip that she can sip on through the day to build her up. I don’t know if you need a prescription for those but there is probably something similar you could buy from a pharmacy. It’s a question of finding a flavour she likes so don’t buy multi packs until you know she’ll drink them.

Good luck.

She has had her bloods done this morning again including the viral ones we a phone appointment for the results tomorrow but they think the virals are about a week keeping everything crossed thanks for the reassuring replies .

Good luck. Get your list of questions ready.

Well had a GP appointment he sent her straight to hospital with a letter she had more bloods done ECG and a thorough assessment she is now under the hospitals care appointment next Tuesday for the results and on a waiting list for ultrasound still playing the waiting game but she was prescribed some different anti sickness tablets which seem to be working and she has actually eaten little bits today .

Hi there, I've just joined this forum tonight. I have had same symptoms as your daughter. Mine started about 4 weeks ago, really tired, not feeling myself, put it down to being a busy mum, until I eoke up with yellowish eyes . I got bloods taken quickly, came back with elevated enzymes, doctor sent me straight to hospital, loads more bloods and ultra sound, long story short, doctors said this week they think I have autoimmune hepatitis. I'm awaiting an app for a biopsy to confirm this. I totally understand how you're all feeling, it's very scary, hope you all get answers soon, it's the waiting fir answers that's horrendous. Take care

Well had some results through it’s not her liver and is not hepatitis but bloods showed she has had glandular fever but they said they can’t tell when does anyone know how we could find out EBV could explain all of her symptoms including the rapid weight loss and raised liver enzymes.

I’m glad she’s now under the hospitals care and is getting some results back. Glandular fever totally wipes you out no wonder she’s been feeling so rough. Fingers crossed for Tuesday x
