Hi

My sons gp suspects my son has GS. His uncongugated bilirubin usually around 40 but recently shit up to 79 then 101 and now 115. I can’t seem to get an answer from my gp what the highest till it’s dangerous. Also he says this us normal but he doesn’t know much about GS. My son is 18 and he is fit and slim. Looking very yellow in his eyes and skin and hasn’t had much of an appetite recently and getting sore stomach. Live in UK. Gp does not feel it necessary to do a gene test . Looking online I cannot see where I can do it privately.

Well if all tests are ok (LFT, ultrasound etc.) high bilirubin usually indicates GS. Genetic test can confirm it but not always needed.

However 115 (µmol/l???) is about 6 times above normal level which is not usually see often in GS but it can be still possible (not eating well, stress etc.). Also you can have both GS and something else.

I would advice him to see some hepatologist to make everything clear but I think it is only GS.

Hi MamaPhox

I did a simple Google search:- “gilberts syndrome blood test private” and on the first page alone came up with two centres that will do tests privately. Maybe worth having a look?

Good luck

Miles
