Hair Dye

This may seem trivial in the grand scheme of things but I have always dyed my hair and it makes me feel better that I do. However. I have now read that this is not wise. I have compensated Nash. Can anyone please advise? I would love to continue to dye my hair but obviously would stop if I really had to.

I have always dyed my hair too and I haven't stopped since the diagnosis (f3 fibrosis) I have found that the colour is not 'sticking' - I lose colour every wash, which I didn't used to.

If you don't mind my asking what did the information give as to why you shouldn't dye your hair any more?

Well I know I shouldn't do it but I googled it and as usual, went into panic again. Thanks for your reply. I just can't bear the thought of going grey. It lifts my mood having a bit of a fuss at the hairdresser xx.

Yes, I couldn't live without google but at times it is not your friend!I do mine at home. I have been told by a hairdresser (maybe just trying to make me stay as a customer) that home kits do more damage to the hair than going to the hairdresser, but as I say I don't know if it's true.

Well I'm going to ask my hairdresser if they have a healthy or liver friendly option. If, as they say, this liver disease is on the rise, then I think they should have something for us. Thanks for replying and I'll let you know how I get on x.

yes, please do, I'd like to know the response, as you say liver disease is on the rise.

There are toxins in the dyes but there are toxins in the air! I don’t think I’d stop dyeing your hair. Don’t put extra load on your liver by avoiding alcohol, eating well and exercising. Doing those things will more than make up for a bit of dye.

I have never been a heavy drinker, only a Saturday night out at our rugby club but he passed away 9 years ago and was ill for a year before that and I haven't bothered since. I have lost 30lbs since Xmas after getting my diagnosis. Unfortunately it had taken over my life and I worry constantly. I suppose I'm clutching at straws in the hope that I will get better and I am trying everything to help. Thanks for your reply and I agree that there is so many things that can affect the liver. Take care x.

Hi, I have cirrhosis and dye my hair. That was something I was concerned about too but my hepatology nurse said it was fine. What a relief 😅

Oh thank you for this. I know it seems vain in the grand scheme of things but it keeps me a bit happier x

Not vain at all 😊 Still check with your nurse though. I’m not ready to go grey yet. Couldn’t wait for lock down to be over so I could get my hair done!

Same here. No. Not ready for grey at all. Still think I'm a bit of a rock chick lol. (NOT)! I tried going great once and I looked like my grandmother. So glad you are the same. Thanks Seashores x.
