Ok, so I think I have a pretty good read on Fibrascan results but just wanted to know if others have had a similar experience, 2 years ago i tested and had NAFLD which was a bit of a surprise given I am fit and not overweight. So i took that on board and set about diet and lifestyle change, ie no drink, plenty of fruits and vegatbles, clean living. Since that time i have managed to reduce my fat score a little, that started at 275 rose to 335, back to 298 and now 289, thats not the worry, the worry is that my KPA is on the rise due to to basically what? I dont drink anymore, no smoking, exercise every day etc etc. Has anybody else made changes yet there scores are up and down, I had 4 scans last year every 3 months hoping to encourage me, but no matter what i do it does not seem to be stopping the rise. Bloods are all ok, blood pressure a little high at around 135/80. But I have has a lot of mental stress, could that have anything to do with liver problems. Just looking for some more insight..
Fibrascans: Ok, so I think I have a... - British Liver Trust
Fibrascans
Are you having blood tests taken at the same time as these scans? If you have any ongoing inflammation your fibroscan (kPa) may be falsely elevated - fibroscan can't tell the difference between inflammation and actual fibrosity.
Obviously you do have quite significant fatty content to your liver, I know they plumped for an NAFLD dianosis but did they consider/investigate anything else as a cause of your liver numbers?

No that's the problem, they cannot answer that, Im not sure if I should get a standard ultrasound of Liver and pancreas or an MRI that may reveal more of a picture. Luckily my Fib score is not to bad, but it has risen, not sure what the next steps are to be honest, Thanks for your reply, Im sure fibrascans can also be operator driven as well to a certain extent.
So what is your KPa score? Last year when I have NAFlD, it was 8. Now after losing 140 pounds, it’s at 7 and hopefully dropping
Mine is going the opposite way, ie i think it was a 7 now an 8 after losing weight, etc. Wow 140 pounds that is fantastic, well done, Im surprised it was not lower after a year, maybe it takes longer than we think, what are your blood tests like..ie LFT's
You aren’t alone. A recent MRE revealed I had no fat in my liver yet my liver is still hardening. I’m guessing it is Metabolic issues. I know it is disheartening because that’s what I feel.
Leil, if you dont mind me asking, how do you know if your liver is hardening? I ask because someone on this site siad that had a scan and KPA was 25 or something like that, did another at 9. Was told that she/he had liver disease, Bloods were fine. So opted for a biopsy and nothing, not fibrosity, no fatty liver. The MRE is supposed to be the new holy grail of Liver testing and in some instances more accurate than the biopsy, given that the biospy is only in one area, although it remains the only way to test the cells in the liver under microscope.
All my blood are fine. I was obese since I was 10 so it took longer than 10 years to reach that state, it obviously won’t get better within a year. Even Minimal scarring takes time - years to reverse. And regarding the metabolic profile, I would imagine that if you are within normal weight range, blood sugar, cholesterol , and liver numbers are all under control, I can’t imagine why your fibroscan wouldn’t get lower after some time. It’s highly treatable with long term lifestyle changes
