I've not drank since October and on antebuse. My doctor tells me my ailments above are not connected to my liver. Im getting blood tests each week and ALP is 94 and has been high for over a month. Should I be worried 😟

Hi Carrie :)

Well done on 4 months alcohol free, that is wonderful.

It is more likely that you have had these problems bubbling away for a long time and they've all come to the surface now. Diabetes can take up to 10 years before it gets to a point where it can be diagnosed. I had symptoms for years but my bloods always were high or borderline before they were extremely high.

I have had arthritis since I was around 50, I have never taken any medication or sought any treatment, I just assume it is old age and the tough life I have lived combined with my lifestyle. It showed up on an abdo xray and my colleague, a radiographer pointed it out to me. I'm a little stiff in the mornings or if I sit too long but I can live with that and the ocassional discomfort.

I also have gallbladder problems, I'm pretty sure in my case that all 3 have a link to my unhealthy lifestyle and snacking instead of healthy eating. When I was too busy or too lazy to prepare some healthy food, I'd grab some fast food, or eat some crisps and chocolate, eggs sausage and bacon... lots of pies or sausage rolls, almost anything from Greggs, Mac D's, Burger King or Kfc.

Whilst it is true, this lifestyle is not very good for the liver as well, it does not necessarily follow that it is connected to the liver. My liver problem is Hep C and nothing to do with my lifestyle... it was just to do with being a stupid 15 to 17 year old kid sharing needles.

I'm afraid I do not know anything about ALP, I know others here will certainly have the knowledge to reassure you.

Dave

Hi Carriecatlady and welcome to this friendly forum. As DavyGravy has said - huge congratulations on 4 months alcohol free. Given your previous alcohol dependence, I would suggest asking for an abdominal ultrasound. This would be able to add to the assessment of your liver. It's impossible to say what is causing the raise in your ALP - rather than look at the number, I would suggest looking at the trend. So is it going up or down etc. Best wishes
