Stomach and right rib pain?

Hi everyone! I'm pretty new here. This is only my second post. My liver enzymes spiked about 4 years ago, AST 80 and ALT 120 for about 2 months and then went back to normal. Doctors thought due to stress and maybe the Voltaren I was on for hip inflammation. Since then, I have had all sorts of tests done and all the doctors say I'm fine and just keep writing me prescriptions for omeprazole. When my stomach felt good, I was drinking wine with dinner and might have one cocktail on a Saturday and Sunday. But since this all started I feel like I have a twisted or pulled muscle somewhere in the right side of my abdomen like something seems to catch when I bend over and then straighten up. I also have been experiencing bloating, a very full sensation, no appetite and an unbelievable gurgling stomach which sometimes burns causing me to wake up at night in pain. I also just started feeling an all over body ache like I have the flu, but I don't have the flu. I've had an endoscopy, colonoscopy, MRI, ultrasound and a hida scan. I just can't seem to get my stomach under control. I'm petrified something is wrong with my liver. I guess I'm posting to find out how people felt before being diagnosed with liver disease and what were their symptoms. Thank you and I appreciate all and any shared advice.

Hi Firecracker

My symptoms were zero. The liver does not feel pain, it can get inflamed and cause the Glisson capsule around it to create a little discomfort under the ribs. My doctor saw an abnormality flag on a blood test and although I felt perfectly fine, he kept doing tests until he had a diagnosis.

Obviously, similar symptoms are completely irrelevant because 20 people could present with similar symptoms, all different problems and none related to the liver, the next 20 maybe all related to the liver, so only results from bloods and scans are of any value and only when reviewed by a doctor.

If I had received those enzyme figures I would have stopped drinking at that moment. If you continue to drink, even socially and small amounts, every time you get a twinge or pain, you will think it is your liver, because it is constantly at the back of your mind. You should consider giving up alcohol just for peace of mind. Subconsciously, you might be stressing out with every sip. Stress is extremely serious.

I have had similar symptoms to yours, but they were connected to biliary sludge. Biliary sludge is like gallstones but in "sand" form, so gurgling and intense burning, but by the time I had an xray, the sludge had passed making it difficult to diagnose. It was noticed while I was having another x-ray. I'm not saying you may have biliary sludge, I'm just pointing out that my similar symptoms were not related to my liver disease.

I hope you manage to find the problem, I know I had many nights sat in a chair rocking back and forth with burning and I would not wish that pain on anyone.

All the best

Dave

Thanks SO much for your reply! You hit the nail on the head! I am type A personally and every time I do have a drink I feel tremendous anxiety. My GP told me not to drink when this all began but when I went for a second opinion to an gastrointestinal specialist he told me to disregard my doctor, which I happily did but now I’m in a lot of pain with no answer. I think taking a break from drinking for an extended period of time or for good will be very beneficial. Thanks again for your insightful reply.

Hi. I have these exact symptoms for stomach and liver ( plus a few others). It is absolutely debilitating and the stomach discomfort wakes at night and first thing in the morning.

My stools are not right either. I have lots of uncomfortable gurgling and churning. Do you go to the toilet a lot?

I had a biopsy on my liver and I have Nodular Regenerative Hyperplasia of the liver which is a vascular liver disease. Have you had tests or bloods recently. All your scans have showed nothing ?

Thanks for replying!! Yes, pain at night needing a heating pad and waking up feeling full, in pain and sometimes nauseous.

I started out being very constipated when all of these stomach issues began, not going for 6 to 8 days and then when I do go I'm going non stop all day!!

So I definitely know something is up but the doctors keep telling me it's stress. Stool looks mushy/fiberous, fuzzy light yellow, brown, gray and green at times.

All my tests are fine except my ANA is elevated slightly but I also have an autoimmune disease called Celiac. Doctors keep telling me it's stress, well yes I am stressed now because I'm getting worse by the day! I don't know what to eat or drink anymore.

Thanks for your response. I think a biopsy may be the next thing I should do.

You are definitely right you need a biopsy. The stomach issues have tormented me for a while they are awful. Do your stools float by the way?The burning happens if I eat or dont eat and I also get a horrible gnawing pain in the morning
