Simple Cysts & NAFLD

Following an operation to remove an ovarian cyst and high LFT results about 10 years ago, my GP referred me to the GI unit where investigations revealed NAFLD and multiple liver cysts. I was discharged after 3 years and advised to lose weight I was about 13st, the consequences of not doing so were never mentioned. Just before COVID I started to get really itchy and hot feet especially at night which results in insomnia followed by fatigue. I thought my body is trying to tell me something so got more bloods done and the GP tested for thyroid and diabetes, all came back normal. My chiropodist couldn’t shed any light on it either.

Last summer I went on a diet and lost about 1 ½ stone and wondered why my waist was reappearing but the spare tyre under my ribs was still there. It was hard as well although no pain. I found this forum and BLT site and read how NALFD can eventually lead to cirrhosis so after few months deliberation (who goes to the doctor about a fat belly and itchy feet!) I saw a Locum who took more bloods and referred me to the acute admissions unit as an outpatient. A CT was done, more bloods and I didn’t hear anything else until I phoned the surgery to be told all was well and no action was required.

Hmm I had to write asking for a copy of the blood results and copies of the latest and previous CT. My ALT has gone down from 91 in June to 39 and GGT from 147 to 129. However, I now know I have a liver cyst that has grown from 17cm in 2017 to 19cm so I guess that’s what’s causing the spare tyre. I have an appointment to discuss this with the Locum in the next week or so.

Has anyone had a cyst deroofed via the NHS ? Do you have any advice before I see the GP? Its taken me a while to post this as it seems so trivial compared to everyone else’s problems, but I’m so worried it will burst and then be a bigger problem to get over. Also the doc said its ok to have alcohol in moderation but I think that will only put more pressure on my liver.
