Tummy swelling

Hi I am new on here, so just learning the site. I was diagnosed with Jaundice about 3 weeks ago. Still really don't understand what this really is. I've spoke to the doctor over the phone but not been examined. My tummy has swollen to twice the size it was and is very painful. I'm struggling to walk due to getting out of breath. Is there any medication that can reduce the swelling

Thanks

You need to be seen face to face URGENTLY.

Jaundice is often the result of too much bilirubin in your blood often as a result of liver damage and you need to be physically assessed to see the extent of what's going on.

Have they mentioned testing for cirrhosis?

Your tummy having suddenly swollen especially if it is now having the added effect of making breathing difficult could be a sign your liver is severely struggling - a condition linked to a struggling liver is fluid build up or ascites in your tummy and this needs to be physically assessed. Whilst diuretics may reduce this fluid build up they need to be prescribed by a doctor and often if the build up is so severe it may even need draining because if this fluid lays too long it can become infected leading to very severe illness.

I would try and get a face to face doctors appointment a.s.a.p. even if that means out of hours or A&E if this is a very sudden and recent change in your health.

Hi FARNESS, to echo what Katie has said, you need to be seen urgently to assess potential symptoms of decompensated liver disease. Left untreated this can be life threatening. Although we are unable to diagnose you on this forum, your symptoms sound like they need assessed as a priority. Keep us updated,Trust10

Go to hospital! You sound like you need urgent attention that your GP will not be capable of.

DO NOT wait for a referral, go to A&E today.

Hello Farness, sounds like ascites which I had a couple of years ago. Hard and distended. It was my liver failing. I went straight to A&E no messing about, it’s very serious. Let’s us know how you get on.😊👍
