Covid -19, still a big risk for some - 2.

I posted this tread up some three months ago just as a warning to others who like me are immunosuppressed. At this time, there are estimated to be around 44% of organ transplanted people who still didn't produce any Covid antibodies.

Some of you will remember Jenny who use to frequent this forum, Jenny has had all three doses of the astrazeneca vaccine but still doesn't have any covid antibodies.

Some of you might be aware that the Royal Free Hospital in London has a Facebook site entitled "Royal Free London Liver Transplant Patient Support Group". Someone had asked a question recently, "Has anyone here had covid ? We’re you vaccinated or unvaccinated. ?

What was the outcome please. ?"

There was a gentleman who responded with the following reply. I should point out that this poor gentleman has given me permission to mention this response as he feels a greater awareness is now needed. Andy Lenaghan wrote:

I have been unsure as to whether I should post or not. My wife Lyn a liver transplant patient, having been double vaccinated caught COVID about the 1st September and passed away on the 14th. This was devastating as we all thought she had a degree of immunity as per the correspondence and references to websites we had. I didn’t want to frighten anyone, but perhaps better to tell the truth and encourage care from you all. We had a great 3.5 years post transplant, but should have had more. Try and get anti body tests if you can. X

I of course offered my sincere condolences to Andy and he feels he needs to speak out and warn others as Covid could well be on the increase as we all gather for the buildup to the festive season.

I, like many others still follow distancing rules, and always wear a mask.

I post this not meant to alarm people but to just echo the need for caution.

Richard

Thank you for this serious reminder. My son takes a derivative of rapamune for a benign brain tumor. Haven't had family over since this all started... Was hoping to have a dinner this week... Nope! Thanks again!
