Hi all I have just had a phone call to tell me an old friend and someone I tried to get off the booze has died yesterday because she caught COVID-19 and as they tried to put her into a coma her liver gave way to death.
This is tragic as she was only 50 and a good looking woman, my wife worked with her for some time and as I said to her a couple of years ago she is a helpless case because she doesn’t want to help herself she took over nearly all the phone calls and was fairly strong with her it was the same conversation every time.
Trouble is this last year because I have been very poorly we have been guilty of ignoring her phone calls with me in intensive care three times this year she has had enough on her plate, but we both feel for Annie because she couldn’t get the help she needed.
I think what I’m trying to tell everyone that has worked so hard to get off the booze don’t go back on it and get the help you need good luck all.

My condolences Dogbot .. so sad .I had my nerves tested early hours of boxing day , as I don't sleep much due to chronic pain and neuropathy in my legs, I was awake still at 5am when I heard a car race so fast followed by an almighty crash . What followed upset me immensely.. I was interviewed by the police for a statement as a deliberate hit and run left a young 28yr old man killed and the driver and car sped away as fast as it arrived. My entire road has been sealed off whilst forensics did their job and a blue tent in place..life is so very very precious and can be taken away in an instant..
So very sad for the family of the victim who is as yet to be identified
I don’t feel you should feel guilty Dogbot - you did your best when you were able. It really does sound like you could not have done more - especially given your torrid time this year- you can’t make someone listen.
Agree 100%. You did everything you could’ve done and more whilst not having a great year yourself, dogbot. Very well done for your efforts and sincere condolences. That’s very sad to hear.
I am so, so, sorry. You know that some alcoholics will keep it hidden and you couldn't be a fly on the wall with her lifestyle choice. You did your best when you could considering you have been in intensive care many times. I'm the same age asAnnie, and I up until 5 years ago have had my times with the demons drink. I'm end stage cirrhosis even though I quit the drink years ago. I had the help and I'm still here, I just wish I had friends to rally around. You are a very kind person and you tried to help but some dont want to be helped. I could tell you so many stories about people I've met in hospital with issues that I've tried to help but chose different paths. So sorry Dogbot😢 sounds like you had tried very hard to help her, And the hospital were trying too🙏 but you do have to think of yourself and how to look after yourself.
I always feel that the medical care is fabulous but the mental health support is missing. I’m so sure that can be a big part in our recovery.
