Hi, I’ve had some LFTs done recently. My ALT was originally 354 and two weeks later it had gone up to 407. I had some more bloods done on Friday and have already seen on My GP that my Dr has requested a telephone consultation with me. I’m guessing he has seen Friday’s results already (though they aren’t showing in My GP). I had an ultrasound on my liver mid October and the sonographer told me I had gallstones and fatty liver. I am also Type 2 diabetic. I’m taking massive steps to improve my health with cutting down carbs, exercising etc. Has anyone else had raised ALT levels, with NAFLD, Type 2 diabetes and gallstones? Is it normal that even though I am improving my health that my ALT is still increasing? Sorry for rambling. Just worried!

Raised ALT levels
Hello, welcome to this forum.
I am glad to hear you have a consultation with your GP soon to discuss your results. It is really important that the reason for the high levels is fully investigated. Perhaps it is all down to having a fatty liver but it is important that other possible causes are excluded. You might want to ask your doctor whether a full liver screen has been done - this looks for things like autoimmune conditions, hepatitis etc - it would be helpful to know that these have been excluded. Is your GP going to refer you to a liver specialist?
I think it could be useful for you to speak to one of our liver specialist nurses on our free telephone helpline. It does get busy but you can leave a message if the line is engaged.

Thank you so much for this. I might ring the nurses tomorrow as I am getting very worried. I do have health anxiety which doesn’t help! Guess I am just very worried about it all being cancer.
