Well, as you say yours is almost 3 times above normal, the discussion with your GP should shed light on your situation.Hope you manage to get a speedy follow up appointment with some reassuring news.
Laura
yes thank you Laura, I have an appointment on 4/10 so not long
This is a matter to discuss with your GP as you indicate. But do not completely panic.
Many laboratories consider higher numbers to be in the "range" than you laboratory does and many (not all) doctors consider this indicator only something to start worrying about when it tops two or three times the upper limit. So you are right where you might have to start taking action but not where anything (as far as you have stated) is in crisis mode now.
Also note that ALT and many other blood tests can fluctuate quite a bit from day to day and even within the same day.
Please note I am NOT a doctor, just a message board poster, always listen to the doctors.
Hi,
We have a useful publication 'Liver disease tests explained' you can read
britishlivertrust.org.uk/wp...
Please do seek out guidance from your own doctors on this.
thank you I will have a look
Labs mean very little if you are thinking you have actual liver disease. ALT can be high due to inflammation that's going on during the time you give blood, BUT it doesn't tell if your liver is cirrhotic. Move what causing the inflammation and the inflammation will go down, If you drink, stop drinking, if you need to lose weight do so.
