Can anybody tell me if it’s safe to take flucloxcillian when you have liver issues as this is the 2nd time I’ve been prescribed them in a month G.P seems to think it’s fine and I can’t speak to heptologist for a month

I was prescribed it for urine infection- made me sick felt horrendous and got extremely dehydrated to point of hospitalisation for 3 nights. Liver function tests were impacted although returned to normal within couple of weeks. If your GP wants you to take it insist that they do regular blood tests to make sure it isn’t having impact

Hello there Foxdud, Are you the same guy whom I was writing private messages and I received really great support from you. If you are then I am so sorry but I have spent all this time trying desperately to make contact with you but I was unsuccessful. You see I must have deleted Health unlocked from my computer not realising what I had done. After about 10 days i noticed that i wasn't getting anany e maild from them. I have been so worried about you as i would never have gone out of your life without first telling you. I was so worried you would think what a terrible person I am but because i am not computer literate so I honestly didn't know how to get health unlocked back into my computer. However I went into my recycle bin ( which I did not even know it existed) and found health unlocked there and I put out a message asking if anyone knew you. Someone told me and here I am after all this time. I do hope you can forgive me. I am so terribly sorry.

Your pharmacy knows a lot more about meds than your Dr does so ask them.

It also depends why you need antibiotics, if it's to cure a serious bacterial infection the benifit outweighs the risk.

I always insist that tests are done to prove infection before antibiotics are prescribed.

flucloxcillian is eliminated from the body through your kidneys so should be OK but do check with the experts.

Yeah first time they checked for infection I.e bloods but I’ve got gout as well 🤷‍♂️ But he said same I’d better risk it because I don’t want sepsis

Hi,

Please do check this with the prescribing doctor and make them fully aware of any liver diagnosis.

Best wishes.

No wish to frighten you but I am on this forum because I took flucloxacillin orally for 10 days in November 2019 and it almost completely destroyed my liver. I developed a condition known as Vanishing Bile Duct Syndrome and was on a watch and wait for many months for a liver transplant with massively elevated LFTs including a peak bilirubin of 460. Thankfully my own liver eventually repaired itself and I had normal bloods 18 months after taking the drug. Still unclear if there is any permanent damage but I feel great. My reaction was INCREDIBLY rare but I felt I had to share this with you. So I would really urge speaking to a hepatologist.

Hi, I'm end stage liver and have taken them on numerous occasions and I thought it was "normal" to feel appalling, thankyou for making us aware, I won't accept them again

Yes I would hope there would be alternatives to offer - I do have to stress my reaction was incredibly rare and I know doctors including my own GP practice who prescribe on a daily basis. But when it goes wrong it seems it can go catastrophically wrong

I've just remembered it was docsisillin spelling a bit wrong that was even worse
