Anyone managing high cholesterol (on stain medication), and fatty liver? I’d like some thoughts on how you balance your diet, especially fat intake.

Keep under 40g a fat a day. I eat a lot of chicken and fish, with veg. I’m not a dairy fan luckily.

Thanks. I try to eat healthy fats, like olive oil, nuts and avocado. It’s difficult for me to keep balance between my fat, carb and protein calories a day. This is what I aim for; carbs 45%, fat 35%, and protein 25% of daily calories. I use an app to log my food. I also try to eat only whole wheat carbs. I’m scheduled with a dietitian this week to see if I need to change what I’m doing.

The thing is, I’m not overweight and eating only whole, non processed foods aren’t giving me enough calories and I’m losing weight. I find this way of eating difficult, but I want to get better. Do you take statins for your cholesterol, and do they keep your cholesterol low enough?

I was same when diagnosed at 38. I’m 53 now. I was slim, didn’t eat fatty foods as didn’t like anything fatty anyway. Yes I’m on a statin and a feno fibrate. I’ve seen 4 different dieticians over the years and no disrespect but they’ve all said different things! I get regular bloods and scans and it’s never progressed, so it is possible to stay well with this. They think mine poss hereditary as my father had a high lipid profile (fats in blood) too. So my cholesterol, triglycerides, gamma gt all stupidly high. I’m also prescribed omacor tablets which are omega as my level of good cholesterol is low.

It seems we are similar. I inherited this from my father as well. He had his first heart attack at 29. I inherited high LPa, a lipid that can accelerate plaque in the arteries. I have mild plaque but so far so good, no progression. Stay in touch and let me know how you’re doing and any new hints you may have. Stay well
