I went for a gastropathy on Monday to take biopsies to test for EOE (Eosinophilic Esophagitis).
Whilst in there they found 2cm sliding hiatus hernia (not too concerning).
Also found portal hypertensive gastropathy with prominent red varices - non bleeding.
Waiting for follow up with hepatologist now. Dr's won't give me any basic guidelines in case they advise me wrong - understandable.
So I've reduced fatty foods, spicy foods, carbonated drinks, alcohol.
Any basic tips that make life more comfortable for those with PHG?
I'm in a fair amount of pain but assumed this was down to my sphincter of oddi dysfunction, which often raises my liver levels.
No blood test has been done since March.
I'm scared and anxious. My husband has said not to worry until I hear off my consultant but Dr Google talks about shorter life expectancy. I'm 31, so only young.
Thanks

My hubby was also found to have PHG when he presented with a massive bleed from varices. Prior to that he had noticed that certain foods caused him pain - sadly a lot of fruit did it, oranges and anything citrus, coleslaw and anything vinegar like, even cartons of fruit juice. He never knew he had any sort of issue at the time.
He has been prescribed Omeprazole since first diagnosis which seems to have hugely reduced the really severe indigestion type pain he had. He just watches and avoids trigger foods.
Well hubbies been on it since April 2012 without issue and prescribed by his liver doctor so we'll stick with what's working. Hubby has cirrhosis and is under doctors from top liver unit in Scotland.
Is that right? My docs put me on a low dose of Lanzoprozole for the GORD from the hernia. Is lanzoprozole considered similar to omeprozole? I've taken both in the past and never noticed a difference in them.
Due to sphincter of oddi dysfunction, chronic pancreatitis and also through masses of blood loss and oxygen depletion following and emergency caesarean to save mine and my babies life.
As I understand the situation, portal gastropathy suggests a hypothetical cause in portal hypertension, but liver disease has not yet been diagnosed or is in question, right?
We need to be sure that a particular doctor has all the knowledge and information on the issue of concern. As practice shows, this is far from always feasible, and "medical error" or "misdiagnosis" in some cases lead to unfavorable consequences for patients.
I am against using Dr. Google, but confidence in the doctor should be absolute in his attitude and knowledge.
