We can't add anything to what you've already been told - if your liver is 'slightly inflamed due to NAFLD' then you have fatty liver with inflammation. The fact they've said slightly is good news and you hopefully still have time to turn this around before the inflammation leads to fibrosis and worsening.

The British Liver Trust has an excellent page which discusses Non Alcohol Related Fatty Liver Disease at:- britishlivertrust.org.uk/in...

They've also released details of a study revealing the benefits of a Mediterranean style diet to tackle NAFLD and this too may prove useful. britishlivertrust.org.uk/ea...

Maybe once your bloods have stabilized your doctor can refer you for a fibroscan - it's a scan that takes 10 readings across your liver and then gives you average scores for kPa (liver density/fibrosis score) and CAP (% fat in the liver). Whilst your liver is currently inflamed the fibroscan could give a false high reading because it struggles to tell the difference between fibrosis & inflammation.

NAFLD can have different stages so you are quite right to want to find out more.

NICE (The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) have devised guidelines with the British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG) that state people diagnosed with NAFLD should have further testing to assess for their risk of fibrosis- stiffening or scarring in the liver.

The specific blood tests are Fib-4 score blood test or an Enhanced Liver Fibrosis (ELF) blood test. A specific scan called a FibroScan also estimates fibrosis.

You may want to discuss this with your own GP who will be able to look up the NICE guidance.

If you do have some weight to lose, then you could also ask your GP for a referral to a hospital registered dietitian for more support and guidance.

Hi again, I have read diet tips and about exercise, feel that yes I have started along the right path , but forgot to mention that I have been on warfarin since I was in my 20's and now also taking tablets for high blood pressure in my60s/70s . Would this be a reason that my liver has become inflamed/NAFLD. I always consider myself on a healthy diet and cycled, done . Moderate exercise, not a huge drinker, now no longer apartake, stick with lime/soda, fruit juice when out. Cut out dairy in my diet of 3 weeks, which seems to be helping Trying to understand what caused it to happen? And to confirm i am doing the right thing dietary wise.
