Ultrasound of liver....sit upright for last part of scan

As the title says in for my yearly US of liver. Usually i go for the scan and lay on my back and both sides while scan is done. This time, at the end, i was asked to sit upright off the side of the bed while my sonographer scanned the liver area, while i sat there.

Does anyone know the reason for scanning me in upright position. I have cirrhosis so i know the liver is scarred.... so am wondering if the different scanning if giving more info or if the liver has canceŕ cells etc... thanks for taking time to read and any info if ye hv it.

Sometimes a sonographer /radiographer will go to great lengths to see the pancreas which is often difficult to get a complete view of. Looking at the pancreas would normally be part of your annual surveillance. Turning on your side is generally all that's needed to do this. However, whilst sitting up squishes a lot of the stuff they want a good view of, it can also shift stomach fluid and bowel gas just enough to expose the tail of the pancreas. Of course it's hard to say that's what's going on with your scan but it's a possibility... and no worrying assumptions should be made about a thorough scan.

Mine made me stand up at the end to take a better look at my kidneys. He found a horseshoe kidney and wanted a better look.

Might have been an idea to have asked while you were there having it done? Just a thought 🤔

I had the exact thing happen in July with my scan. The tech said she was done and to sit there while the dr looked at images to make sure he/she had everything they needed. She then comes back in and asked me to sit up while she did more scanning. After questioning her, she said it was for a better look at my gallbladder. I knew I had gallstones, so my mind raced to gallbladder cancer! Boy, where our minds will go with scanxiety! Of course, my hepatologist confirmed everything was fine, but they had me worried since I have never been scanned sitting up.
