I have a colonoscopy every year now following transplant. This is because I have a higher risk of various bowel disease fmduevto the root cause of my liver disease and because of risk factors associated with the anti rejection meds. There 's no real danger to those other issues you mention as a result of having a colonoscopy.

You do have to clear out the bowel and they give you some stuff to do that which is very high in various salts. So they should make sure that whatever they give your husband to take isnt likely to adversely affect his other issues.

Hope thats helpful

Hi KristianMany many thanks, it means such alot your reply, knowing that in a nice way others face same situations, hope you keep well.

Can you still take anti rejection meds thou , mind you surely with the prep they dnt stay in long enough

Yes, you still take your meds as normal. You generally take the prep in 2 phases, but I know there are different types so some you may get the effects with just one. Generally though you'll find that it takes a couple of hours for each one to work through the system. So you find they is enough of a break to be able to take any meds. It may not be a complete stop but it will be enough not to make much difference as far as meds are concerned.

I'm sure when deciding which bowel prep to give your husband they will take these things into account. But, if you do have any queries they are usually very happy to answer them before you start. I've managed to get some clarification by ringing up my endoscopy unit but I appreciate different health systems may operate differently.

Hope all goes well. Its not the most pleasant a process and the prep is probably the worst bit of it. So get through that and the procedure itself is usually a breeze. You can just lie back and watch the pictures as they go through. Its fascinating, lol. Definitely have the sedation if its offered though. That certainly helps ease the process.
