Hi, I am new to this so not sure if I’m doing the right thing by posting this. I had an ultrasound scan 4 months ago and only just got told they found I have fatty liver 2 weeks ago. They didn’t say how bad it was or anything & just advised I loose some weight & cut down on alcohol. I suffer from depression & anxiety & had a big binge drinking session on Friday night, I have had yellow diarrhea yesterday & today & am worried I’ve done serious damage. I hadn’t had an alcoholic drink for a week & a half before that.
Fatty liver: Hi, I am new to this so not... - British Liver Trust
Fatty liver
Diarrhoea is always yellow because it doesn’t get chance to turn brown through the bile process, it’s too fast to leave the body! I wouldn’t worry about that but would worry about using alcohol to relieve depression, I have in past and now regretting it as I have many worrying symptoms and have to have some unpleasant tests. Fatty liver can be easily dealt with but cirrhosis is another matter. Don’t risk it developing into that. See GP and get some help. Good luck.
Thank you for your reply. Yes I agree that using alcohol to numb depression isn’t the answer and I am going to try a month off it then drink in moderation every few weeks after that & along with loosing weight after a while go get my liver checked again to see if it’s improving
It’s surprising how you can get used to doing without it, not had a drink for 8 months and not missing it! Didn’t think it was possible for me at one time!
Well done for doing 8 months btw! I bet it feels great. Have you had to avoid certain situations to keep off it or just faved everything head on without a drink?
Thanks. I don’t feel great but I’ve lost 3 stone so all to the good. My social life is non existent really nowadays but family meals I just have soft drinks. The happiest times of my life were my teens when I went to dances, concerts etc and didn’t touch a drop! I wish I hadn’t touched wine, I loved my Chardonnay but it’s wrecked my liver, I’m almost sure. It gives you false confidence. When you enter a room full of people think what you think of THEM, and don’t worry about what they think of you. You won’t need a drink so much then! Marjory Proops.
It has crept up with me since the covid pandemic I barely left the house & started binge drinking once or twice a week and put 2 stone on in weight! 😱 so I’m not sure if I have alcohol fatty liver or the non alcohol one 🤷🏼♀️ All my adult life I have suffered from really bad hangovers tho and been sick all day after a big night out , so starting to wonder if my liver is a little weaker than normal anyway. My biggest thing would be to be able to go out and comfortably socialise without having to drink 🤦🏼♀️
I would have a chat to GP. I have over done the booze so many times at parties etc and then regretted acting like a prat the day after, making me more anxious. All stemmed from lack of confidence. Not saying you misbehave at parties!
It's easy to have a happy life and socialise without ever having an alcoholic drink. I only wish my husband could have realised that before it killed him. Give it up and any minor liver damage can heal.
Yes you are right that’s what I need to do. I’m booked in for a blood test on Wednesday to check cholesterol so I’ll wait till those results are in and make an appointment
