Hi all hope you are well and keeping safe I was just wondering if anyone could help me I don't know why but every time I eat something I feel sick I have been like it for a few days now. I have had a bowl of corn flakes this morning and a bit of fruit loaf at lunch and just now I had a few chips garden peas and a burger and couldn't eat it all because I was not feeling to good. I am not sure what to do about it. Thanks Mary x

Sexy1971 in reply toNicky182

Hi Nicky182 yes I'm taking my meds and I am not taking any new ones. I am just confused is to why its happening now and not before this as I was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver in September 2020 but not sure if it has anything to do with it. Thanks Mary x

Mary it could be many things but your toxins become high and this can result in you feeling like that, do you take Lactulose and if so how much and how many times a day

Sexy1971 profile image
Sexy1971 in reply toNicky182

Hi Nicky182 no I don't take them thanks Mary xx

in reply toSexy1971

If you are not suffering from constipation or hepatic encephalopathy you do not need to be prescribed lactulose. Speak to your doctor about struggling to find foods you can eat. Maybe a referral to a liver specialist dietician would be recommended. It is essential you eat little and often in order to keep your liver fed. Best wishes

Then speak to your docker as lactulose is great for removing toxins

Hi, I have Cirrhosis of the Liver and there is no way I could eat a burger and chips. But then I also have a fatty liver and no Gallbladder. I drink a pint of celery juice first thing in the morning which helps me to go to the loo and gets me quickly hydrated. I eat small meals and drink plenty of water. Livers don't like to be starved so if you find you can't eat for much longer speak to your Dr. I hope you feel better soon. x

Hi Fandabby I am waiting to hear back from my doctor hopefully I will have it sorted out today. I have cirrhosis of the liver and I just can't eat much now because I just feel sick and bloated so basically I'm not eating much to be honest with you the only thing I am OK with is cereal in the morning but the rest of the day I can't eat because like I said it makes me feel sick thanks Mary x

Hiya Mary, yes I get the same way. I have cirrhosis of the liver from alcohol. I gave up gluten. Fruit loaf is very processed food and was one of my favourites in the past. Try to look at what you’re eating. Trying different salads out or at home and eating non-processed foods are better for you as well as water to keep the liver working as best as it can with it being cirrhotic. If you make a diary or use a food diary app for two weeks then export it and print it out. Ask your Liver Consultant for a referral to the liver dietitian.

Keep us posted

I can completely understand! I had half a hot dog and a couple of mouthfuls of cheesecake yesterday. The dietitian (lovely lady) prescribed Complan but I do snack rather than have a full meal. I am managing to maintain a decent weight. I was very underweight. Keep well, Sexy! x

When I can't tolerate eating due to fullness, loss of appetite, or nausea, I switch to a much softer diet for several days. I will munch on applesauce, scrambled eggs, yogurt, organic nutrition shakes that are high protein (Orgain brand in the US), small bites of soft cheese and sip natural juices low in sugar. I used to skip food altogether during these periods, but found I'm better off trying to eat a little something.

Wishing the best to you!

Your doctor may prescribe protein shakes as protein is essential to a cirrhotic liver to help prevent muscle wastage which happens when the liver is starved... it starts to feed off muscles if it doesn't get nourished properly. So try to exercise too in order to keep those muscles strong.

Hi Mary,

If you are experiencing any new symptoms we would suggest you inform your GP who can investigate.

Keep us posted :)
