Found my report, KPa,at test fibro scan out of ten tests was ,39.5kpa--- .my consultant report was 41.5 kpa,but all blood tests normal, with a normal liver function. GGT was 210,but I still had slight infection in colon after removal of polyps, could that have been a cause of portel hypertension, they said infection had spread across bile duct and inflamed liver, any ideas please, doctors just avoid questions,

Your doctor should explain these results to you & perhaps you need to push for answers.

If you had elevatated liver enzymes at the time of your fibroscan it could be artificially high, if your bloods were normal though it could be an accurate reading and you really need a discussion with your doctor.

A reading of 39.5 kpa or 41.5 kPa is in the cirrhosis range and the most common reason for portal hypertension is cirrhosis. A fairly simple explanation of portal hypertension - about 1.4 litres of blood circulate through your liver every minute. When this flow is impeded by scar tissue within the liver the blood then backs up into your portal vein causing portal hypertension - this blood then has to find alternative routes round the body often in smaller blood vessels which are not suitable for that volume of fluid causing all sorts of side effects.

The cause of your liver ill health needs to be identified and tackled whether that be by lifestyle changes of medicinal intervention it needs to be done a.s.a.p. so you need to have a discussion with your doctor regarding this. You need to know the stage of your liver ill health or need this clarified and you need to know what care plan is envisaged.

The BLT has a good page about the patient charter which details the level of care you should expect as a liver patient together with good questions to ask. If you don't get any joy asking questions in person then write them down in a letter - you need to know these things in order to properly look after yourself going forward.

The page on cirrhosis may be advantageous to you to so you can educate yourself and ask appropriate questions of your doctor. britishlivertrust.org.uk/in...

Are you under a gastroenterologist or hepatologist at the hospital? If not you need a referral a.s.a.p. to get appropriate care.

Hi,its very difficult to get answers,I died in surgery last Lear in march due to what I was told to be covid, that was march, prior to that I had no liver issues,!just the bowel problem,I have spoke to consultant and asked about the DNAR,that was placed when I was admitted without my knowledge,I have the respect document, and he refused knowledge of such documents, I have spoke to GP and he doesn't want to get involved, AVMA,have suggested something is a miss, thank you for your help,I have always been physically fit all my life, but find it hard that 4 years of drinking 4 to 5 cans of lager as put me in this position,So sorry for the moaning,!!!!

You really need to get to the bottom of this and under appropriate care. It's possible your liver injury isn't a result of alcohol but possibly a result of covid-19 if you had that last year (14-53% of covid patients have had hepatic damage & this could be related to the direct cytopathic effect of the virus, an uncontrolled immune reaction, sepsis or drug-induced liver injury).

A lot of people also seemed to be hit with DNR notices with covid although if you 'died' during surgery they evidently still brought you back so perhaps it is no longer on your file.

Your hospital should have PALS (patient advice and liaison service) who should be able to liaise and make sure you are getting the appropriate level of care. You really need to be under appropriate care to assess and monitor your liver illness so it is very worthwhile you chasing this up through PALS nhs.uk/nhs-services/hospita... Your GP should be helping with medical care even if they don't want to get involved in what might be a legal issue with the DNR etc.

Get someone to help you with this so you arn't going it alone.

Best wishes, Katie

Thank you very much, that's the most sensible comment I have had in over a year,I am just awaiting documents from the hospital regards all treatments, the reason i think the GP won't help is because I had strong words when he sent me home a few years ago with indigestion, later that evening I had an Mi. I maybe just paranoid but hope you can see why my miss trust has taken me,thanks again,I really do appreciate all comments good or bad,Hope you take very good care.
