Dandelion root tea

Hi everyone. My husband is waiting on the list for the gift of a new liver. He is now unable to take his diuretics and has become resistant to them and has to have a drain every 8/10 days. Is dandelion root tea safe to take? it was suggested as a natural diuretic. Trying anything to make him a little more comfortable. Many thanks for any feedback,

Katie xx

You really, really must check this with his medical team. The last thing you want as he's going towards transplant is something that might make him more poorly.Whilst dandelion is well known as a natural diuretic and has been for centuries is doesn't make it 100% safe especially for someone with such advanced cirrhosis.

Many thanks for the reply, I’ll definitely check this out with his medical team. We are extremely cautious with everything that he eats, drinks and ingests. Was just wondering if any of you knowledgeable guys had any experience with it.

All patients who undergo a liver transplant are told not to drink herbal teas of any kind. You'll also be told of certain foods to avoid, like any blue cheese, grapefruit, grapefruit juice and Seville oranges (marmalade).

Better to get in the habit now.
