Would anyone drink a non alcoholic bottle of beer or 2 if invited to a beer garden if you have cirrhosis and don’t really want to explain everything, I’ve got the will power not to have any alcohol, but will it do me any harm like a bottle of becks 0%?

Not that I’m going to just wondering?

Hi There, I get asked this question by my friends on nights out and for me I have never had a non alcoholic drink I was too busy drinking the alcoholic ones 🥺 I would be afraid that a none alcoholic drink would trigger me to try an alcoholic one, but I do have a friend who is a recovering alcoholic that would drink a none alcohol beverage, I wish you well X

Hi Jimmy. The over riding feeling about this is that if you have cirrhosis which may lead to requiring a transplant later on, you would not be considered if you have been drinking non alcoholic substitutes. This is because the rules for transplant stipulate you have to be free of alcohol, your addiction and habit for a minimum of 6 months. Although technically you are not drinking alcohol, by drinking the substitutes, you are not demonstrating that you have managed to kick the habit so there is a huge risk you could return to the real thing and that would be held against you as they will not risk transplanting a new liver only for it to be abused. So your best bet? Stick to fruit juices.Best wishes.

I know was just a silly question, happy in my own garden with Mam and dad but my mind changes from day to day... I have no desire to drink well sometimes I think yeah would be nice to go out and have few and a laugh or when I’m down, I’ve managed a year so will continue for as long as I’m here’s. Still awaiting new scan and blood results my consultant has had my results for over a week now have been chasing but apparently he’s not been in the office??? Dosnt take much to do some sums to get recent meld score and to see if my bloods are improving and awaiting appointment at freeman to get more in depth info, I feel gp and consultant are a bit vague they didn’t want to give me my blood results on paper because they say I’ll google and get more anxious and worried but it’s my choice had a year now.

Would like everything in a file, scan results, bloods, and portal hypertension details and keep them up to date when possible. To see ups and possible downs.

Well done for staying off booze for a year and remember it is absolutely possible to be happy and have a good time without it. Think positive if results were bad you would have heard by now 😀

It depends on why you have cirrhosis - if it is not related to alcohol abuse then I’d happily drink the odd non-alcoholic beer.

However, if your cirrhosis is alcohol related in any way then no, just stick to soft drinks.

Well done for keeping off the booze for a year - that is a fantastic effort and I’m sure it has been very hard at times. However, having made it this far, try to see the positives in your health and stay away from the booze.

I know what you mean about results - I get a very varied reception from my consultant entirely dependant on which member of the team I see - the majority of them are very happy to engage with me, share the results and discuss my future - however, there is a minority that try to fob me off and won’t share the details I want.

In terms of a file - one suggestion is what I do and keep my own records and notes. Yes, there will be gaps when you don’t get the data you want but overall I’ve found it very helpful to have my own notes to refer to. Also, it means that before each clinic appointment I can skim my history and then ask relevant questions of the consultant which helps me have a feeling of control over my future.

Still, that’s my pennies worth - as they say YMMV - Peter
