I’m so miserable. Site to sit, lie down and when I stand up feels like everything is falling out. No appetite, severely constipated. Tried prunes, orange juice, laxative, coffee-not king moving. Just so miserable. When does it start to get better? Been 2 and a half wks since the operation.,
Hi I haven’t had my transplant yet I’m still looking forward to all your pain, I have read on the site that the pain is quite painful but also natural I think I’m not to far off that the pain is there for a few weeks and the best thing for it is moving but as I say I haven’t gone through it yet maybe ask the trust or the people that have gone through it, but I wish you all the best 👍.

Ahh sorry you are still going through the rough time. Have you tried all bran or bran flakes? Hope you soon start feeling better

Hi 👋, please check that this is okay, could you maybe try a warm sitz bath and put a little epsom salts in the water? Just a thought, hope you feel better soon. Thinking of you!

I am taking paracetamol only, had transplant on 5th Dec. Pain is incredible. But the codeine they have prescribed is making me constipated so I stopped taking it.
Right now if death was an option I’d take it.
Please don't think that ur donor has given u a new chance of life try the olive oil 4 a while otherwise phone ur consultant he will prescribe an alternative medication i really havnt had much pain; turning over in bed a little back pain & getting out of bath i I don't no ur age but i was 69 wen i had transplant if i can get through it so can u take Care
I’m 55. Feel terrible saying that about death but the pain is hellish. I phoned yesterday no reply and again this morning. I’m in so much pain, headache unbearable and now have a problems passing water. Just feel awful.
Hello,
I am sorry you are in so much pain. There is always going to be a transplant coordinator on call - phone the hospital switchboard and ask them to 'page' the coordinators, say it is an urgent call. They should get back to you. Try your GP practice - there will be a message on their phone about what to do out of hours. If push comes to shove then you should take yourself to A and E - I realise this is a particularly unappealing option but you need to get your pain investigated and sorted out.

I tried the GP out of hours and exactly as you said they told me to call an ambulance. No way am I doing that.
The pain i am experiencing is really only around the surgery site but the liver team prescribed me codeine with paracetamol. It’s me that’s stopped taking the codeine as it’s caused me to suffer hellish constipation. All I need is for someone to tell me what other painkiller they can suggest.
I am so sorry to cause any of you any anxt or concern. But in truth I’m just miserable.
The paracetamol hasn’t even shifted the blinding headache.
I’m not hungry, no appetite and just feel awful. So sorry x
Hi,
Is your pain from the constipation or after effects of the transplant by that I mean is it internal pain around where your scar is or lower down in the abdomen where constipation pain is usually felt? You didn't actually say. People experience pain in many different ways.
Paracetamol can cause constipation if you're taking it a lot by which I mean the max safe dose.
Your Liver team/GP should be able to give you effective relief. If they discharged you I would have thought that they'd expect you to be OK at home. Again, the medical team don't expect you to be in constant pain.
Have you got a partner or close friend or relative to support you? Having a person or people around you could make a big difference in getting over pain. I'm sure others here will agree.
Pain is where surgery was. It’s so tight. Plus this headache is menacing. Just feel miserable
Hi Braveheart65 I read that you stopped the codin because it was making you constipated, first thing that the doctors and nurses always say stay in front of the pain so my believe is you should go back on the codin and then see the team for the constipation so good luck 🤞 they can sort you out 👍.

Sorry to hear about your pain. i had my transplant at QE a year ago and I experienced severe migraine type headaches for c3-4 weeks post but they did disappear....for me it was all the new medication and my body adapting to it. I did telephone including paging Transplant Coordinators for support after I was initially discharged as I had some issues. I would recommend contacting them and seeking advice the coordinators were very helpful.
